Charity begins at home. So, the first thing I had done is to purloin, for my title, the famous signature of Kushwant Singh, one of India’s greatest journalist-authors. May he live long to inspire people like me.
My aim of creating this blog is to insult people, specially those who allege undying loyalty to me and swear never to hurt me whatever be the provocation. This way, a fellow humanoid told me in confidence, I can be very famous in no time. All you have to do, she hissed, is to select the most mean of your pals, and publicly insult him for his alleged acts of omission and commission. He will do the rest, to let the world know of your existence, even as a person without vertebrae.
I have such a perfect specimen in mind, but can’t bring myself upto doing what my fellow humanoid suggested. The reason being, I am not physically endowed to tackle a 220 lbs gorilla in public spaces, especially when that gorilla will be out to assasinate me for my insults. Secondly, much as I would like to indulge in mudslinging, profanities or outright obscene and obnoxious behavior, I cannot bring myself upto any of the proposed options, purely due to fear of my not-so-illustrious family and due to my upbringing.
After thinking a long time and analyzing the options available, blogging is the only means open to me which affords safe exit in time, as I would know when the affected individual will be seeking my company.
The Essay on Societies Reaction To Madness Over Time
History, has been, and will continue to be, an important part of society. Frederick Jackson Turner once said, Each age tries to form its own conception of the past. Each age writes the history of the past anew with references to the conditions uppermost in its own times. (New) Today our culture views some events as significant and others that have impacted society just as much, oftentimes do not ...
So my current and would-be friends, dont be surprised if you happen to see your name in print. Your only way out is to pretend that it is not you who is referred to in the blog but someone else, since I have given you an exit route, that “name changed” ruse. But what I may be writing about you could be 24-karat juicy details, even better than that of Paris Hilton or that singer, I forget her name, hmm yes Spears or Pears.
This also brings to my mind another painful episode. I had written an article for a local daily and mentioned some examples of people the society doesn’t need (or something to that effect) and blatantly mentioned my wife, and added as an after thought “name changed”. It is enough to report here that the aftermath was full of tears, rancour and downright physical assault when I was asleep. I mention these actions as they happened, in chronological order. Probably at that time I had my first heart attack, the memory is hazy, for obvious reasons.
I was told by a friend of mine from Denver, that he hated going to the Big Apple. I thought may be due to his allergy to crowds, but what he told me made sense. “I dont want to be hated by strangers in New York”. Hate, I do not know why, till the other day when I was jostling in a crowded railway platform in Bombay, I could sense what he meant.I could only see hostility in everyone’s eyes there. If I draw a parallel, he was right. I also dont want to be hated in the streets.
I read a poem by a famous urdu poet, dont ask me his name, because I am very poor in remembering names (the reason I failed in my Economics Paper) about big cities and its inhabitants: it goes something like this after loose translation: do not understand why in this city, everybody has a burning in the heart, storm in the eyes, and is always looking troubled; even the mirror I look at gets upset at my reflection for no rhyme or reason so much for being hated in the streets.
I found a new genre of businessmen in the Web. They have perfected the art of recruiting you after thoroughly insulting you. Their lingo is so obnoxious that people probably love them for the insuts hurled at them. Terms like “I am rich, you are not”. “I dont have any use for you, you moron” etc.
The Essay on Why You Really Dont Hate Reality Television
We believe that: If you have been watching celebrity BB, you'll know who Germaine Greer is. She shocked many when she entered the BB house, because she was originally opposed to reality TV, but she said that, in her defence that, "Reality TV is not the end of civilisation as we know it, it is civilisation as we know it." SS To an extent that's true; that's why it is getting such high ratings- 14.1 ...
I have met a lot of cranky individuals who take enormous pleasure in insulting you. The irony is that people love to be insulted by such individuals: I remember three individuals, all in the same trade (of feeding hungry people), only one person was French, the other two Indians all curiously in their late-50s with obnoxious language which will not stand scrutiny by the hoi polloi.
However, after being insulted by them and on tasting their wares, one could understand why there was always a milling crowd in their establishments. The food items literally melted in the mouth and you always wanted to taste the same stuff just once more……. Vow, what a situation to be in for the owners of the establishments as also the patrons who paid cash to be insulted.
If readers are familiar with James Herriot, the British Vet-writer of yesteryears, I recall one anecdote he wrote in his books: that of a sausage-dog (probably) belonging to a pub owner. This dog had long memories of who hurt him when, even if it is in his (dog’s) interest. Herriot had to first blindfold the dog before he cut his nails; the dog remembered the vet’s voice and his smell when he visited the pub (dog’s residence) after a very long time and started barking furiously….. So much for hatred.
This is at the personal level, we always have our biases towards others, black vs white, northerners vs southerners, europeans vs. americans the list is endless. One always enjoys this pseudo-camraderie as far as you are not the subject. I think, ironically, even the jokes signal our hatred and we masquerade our hatred through jokes.
Especially in movies, the villian is all powerful, omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. He has news even before something happens to the hero and is ready to erect yet one more block in hero’s path. The hero, being shown as good natured, pious, family-man type, loyal et al, gnashes his teeth for 99% of the movie time and subjugates the villian in the climax. The hollywood genre of movies despatch the villian with a shot in the head, but in all other movies, the villian is pardoned magnanimously by the hero and his ilk. With a profound apology which doesn’t convince even our family dog, he goes scot free. Does it mean, he has learnt his lesson and troubled the hero no more or do we have to wait for the sequel to come? What about the blood-thirsty couch-potatoes who want the villian to be tortured and killed? In hindsight, being a villian was far better than the hero. Villians live in huge mansions, drive jaguars or rolls, always have a drink in hand, nubile females always massage his biceps and dance lewedly for him. And above all, the villian has the best laugh in town. Even when the police arrives at the climax, they treat the villian with utmost respect and allow him to go to the gaols in his pet automobile.
The Term Paper on Willy Loman, Tragic Hero or Selfish Individual?
Willy Loman, the protagonist in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, is often referred to as a tragic hero who is forced to commit suicide to valiantly save his family from the “elusive” American Dream. The majority of critics give readers the impression that Willy was a selfless man that worked himself to death in order to support his family and ensure their success and happiness. He is portrayed ...
As against this, the hero is always bleeding, getting beaten up, treated roughly by the cops of the land and jailed for seven years even a minor traffic offense. For seven years, he broods in the cell about justice, rule of the law etc. and only at the climax becomes animated to bash up the villian. Only a twisted and criminal mind can conjure up such a plot, but still we shell out hard earned money to watch this kitsch time and again. Who do we identify with? The villian or the Hero? Is there any answer?
On a psychological scale also, I think hatred spurs competitiveness in individuals – to perform better than “that guy” if it is so, hatred is all the more welcome at my doorsteps.
So on this bitter-sweet note, I am signing off.\par
