Chastity is a virtuous act upon oneself to be fully and completely self giving to God until you marry. Chastity is not very commonly known to the younger crowd. Today it is very common for a fifteen to twenty year old girl to get pregnant. This leads girls and their families into many hard to face decisions. These decisions usually create turmoil and chaos in the families which tears families apart.
For Catholics, chastity is so important for us because it does not create conflict or other matters that we do not need to be apart in. It is also very important because it helps us say out of trouble like for instance; adoption, abortion, guilt, ruining your future, or a hurry-up wedding. Chastity also helps us develop friendships, plan our futures and also helps us discover who you are as a person, who God made you out to be. There are many challenges to staying chase in the modern world. There are many distractions and leeways into becoming something that you are not. These distractions include drugs, alcohol and sex. These things may look nice and helpful, but the end result is always negative no matter how many times you tell yourself it is not. An example of this is a story of a man that I heard not to long ago. He was a nice man who had two wonderful kids, but has never been married. He has gone through some tough times. Really his life is one huge roller coaster that he never gets off. Instead of turning to God, he turned to drugs, girlfriends, and many more terrible choices. He chose a life of lies, rebellion, and disrespectfulness.

There is other kinds of Chastity that people do not know about these include being chase with food or drinking, soberness. These are also very important to remember in our life. Chastity needs to be used more by girls, boys, women, and men all around the world. I believe if this happened that our world would be a better place. There is also a difference in chastity based on your state of life, meaning if you are single or married. Single state of life entails abstinence, which people assume means the same thing as chastity but this is not the case. Abstinence means not sleeping around with guys before you are married. Then there is chastity which entails being chase to your husband while in marriage, meaning do not cheat while being married. Chastity also works with boyfriend and girlfriend, or even being engaged or post-marriage.
Every person is called to be chase, but those who are baptized are the ones who are really called to be chase. This is because we Catholics are supposed to live a catholic life as in what the scriptures and oral traditions tell us to do. The top model of chastity is Jesus Christ himself, but there are also some other models besides Christ. These people we can relate to more because they we closer in time period then Christ. Some of these models of chastity are St. Maria Goretti, because she did not fall in to the trap of an older man trying to have sex with her even though she refused more than once she was still raped and stabbed many times. Another model of chastity is St. Philomena. St. Philomena has a Cord; many saints do not have cords. If a person wears a St. Philomena cord around their waist it gives them graces from her and also it helps remind people to say chase in everyday situations, even with the littlest things. And lastly St. Agnes because at the age of twelve she was Christian which was not aloud at her time, she was told to worship pagan gods and lose her virginity by rape or die. She chose death instead; even when they told her she could marry someone.
There are many Catholic teachings on the virtue chastity, especially in Church documents and in the Catechism. These Catechism sections were 1623, 2337, 2348 and 2349. 1623 states, “In the Latin Church, it is ordinarily understood that the spouses, as ministers of Christ’s grace, mutually confer upon each other the sacrament of Matrimony by expressing their consent before the Church. In the Eastern liturgies the minister of this sacrament (which is called “Crowning”) is the priest or bishop who, after receiving the mutual consent of the spouses, successively crowns the bridegroom and the bride as a sign of the marriage covenant.” This means that married couples should be chase in marriage so that they can have a fruitful and faithful marriage. 2337 states, “Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person and thus the inner unity of man in his bodily and spiritual being.

Sexuality, in which man’s belonging to the bodily and biological world is expressed, becomes personal and truly human when it is integrated into the relationship of one person to another, in the complete and lifelong mutual gift of a man and a woman.” This says that are sexuality belongs to ourselves and that we should keep it until we find the right person to share it with. 2348 states, “All the baptized are called to chastity. The Christian has “put on Christ,” The model for all chastity. All Christ’s faithful are called to lead a chaste life in keeping with their particular states of life. At the moment of his Baptism, the Christian is pledged to lead his affective life in chastity.” This is talking about who are called to lead chase lives, and what the person says when they receive the Sacrament of Baptism. 2349 states, “People should cultivate [chastity] in the way that is suited to their state of life. Some profess virginity or consecrated celibacy which enables them to give themselves to God alone with an undivided heart in a remarkable manner. Others live in the way prescribed for all by the moral law, whether they are married or single. “Married people are called to live conjugal chastity; others practice chastity in continence: There are three forms of the virtue of chastity: the first is that of spouses, the second that of widows and the third that of virgins. We do not praise any one of them to the exclusion of the others…. This is what makes for the richness of the discipline of the Church.”
