The debate over China’s human rights violation has been an ongoing issue in the international communities for the past decade. One way to show the international community’s disapproval of the human rights violations in China that comes to mind would be to prevent it from joining international organizations, such as the World Health Organization. However, due to the nature and role of the World Health Organization, and the nature of Chinese politics, government, and social atmosphere, I strongly recommend China’s acceptance to the World Health Organization, despite the country’s supposed human rights violations. The following support my argument.
First, the situation of human rights in China needs to be examined. According to the US Department of State, The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is an authoritarian state in which the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is the paramount source of power. At the national and regional levels, party members hold almost all top government, police, and military positions. Ultimate authority rests with members of the Politburo. Leaders stress the need to maintain stability and social order and are committed to perpetuating the rule of the CCP and its hierarchy. Citizens lack the freedom to express peacefully opposition to the party-led political system and the right to change their national leaders or form of government. This view is shared by most western nations and many other countries throughout the world. Even assuming this view to be completely factual and accurate still does not justify a refusal to admit China into the World Health Organization.
The Essay on Bush Government China World
At the end of the cold war there were situations going on all around the world including Nicaragua, China and the Soviet Union. President Bush had to deal with these situations the best that he could because of their importance to the changing world around him. When the president went to Beijing he spoke to Chinese leaders about increasing trade and tried to create a closer relationship with ...
The World Health Organization is a special agency of the United Nations with a goal of improving the level of health of all people worldwide. It was established for the benefit of humans around the world, regardless of their governments. According to its constitution, it is “the directing and coordinating authority on international health work” and is responsible for helping all peoples to attain “the highest possible levels of health.” Therefore, it should be dedicated to aiding the people of the world regardless of their government and those governments’ policies. Not admitting China to the World Health Organization would only detriment the Chinese people, who make up about a fifth of the world population. Moreover, admitting China to the WHO does not go against the International Community’s stance against human rights violations in China, as it is only for the benefit of the Chinese people.
On the other hand, preventing China from entering the World Health Organization, or any other peaceful international organization, as a means of exerting pressure on its government with a purpose of bringing to an end to human rights violations in China, would provide not benefits. China is a great and powerful nation with an ancient history exceeding most of the countries of the western world. It is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and home to a fifth of the world population. It is rather unlikely that the communist leaders of such a nation would change their internal policies due to foreign pressure. China’s leaders are deeply concerned with keeping face in the international community. The solution to the human rights crisis in China is definitely one that is started from within the socialist nation, one that is supported only by the people of China. One of the foremost scholars of aesthetics and intellectual history is Professor Li Zehou. He was in China during the Tiananmen Square massacre. He was a professor at the prestigious Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, and many of his students were involved in the democracy movement. He believes that many journalists and analysts in the U.S. and the rest of the world do not understand China, its need for stability, and its concern about losing face to the rest of the world. “Foreign pressures cannot speed the process of democratization in China because the government is concerned about losing face. Change can only come from pressure from within, he asserts. The Chinese government will listen to the complaints of the Chinese people, especially the intellectuals,” says Li. Moreover, internal movements have changed the way China is governed. Human right movements in the past 50 years have greatly benefited the people of China, and these movements are still working today.
The Essay on WHAT IS THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT IN HUMAN SOCIETY
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT IN HUMAN SOCIETY? Be the government a dictorcratic, autocratic or democratic, all these have one thing in common and that is to rule the citizens under its power as established by the ruling citizens and or parties. Any government form will fight to preserve its sovereignty from both foreign and domestic enemies. Based on all wants and needs of the governing party ...
Therefore, foreign pressures such as preventing China from joining WHO will not benefit the people of China, whose basic civil and human rights are being violated. They will only cause resentment and friction between the western nations and the government of China. I believe that China should be admitted to the World Health Organization, but at the same time the members should issue a statement reminding the Chinese government that it needs to alter it’s internal human rights policies.
