I’ve always enjoyed foreign films, and Cinema Paradiso was no exception. This film captivates a very important part of human lives; the movies. I never realized the effect movies quite have on people until I saw this film. People get absorbed into films and it almost becomes a part of them, and the people feel like they are a part of the film.
It almost seems like magic. The things people were doing in the theatre were what people still do in theatres today. Talking along with the characters in the movies we ” ve seen a hundred times, doing slightly inappropriate sexual practices in the back where no one can see. Even though it takes place in the late forties to the sixties, watching Cinema Paradiso, was like watching people seeing films today. Some things never change. The scene I found most intriguing was the deleted scene, the scene where old Salvatore calls old Elena, and they meet one last time.
That scene was played out very well, and probably should have stayed in with the rest of the movie. Anyway, It was good to see Salvatore and Elena explain to each other their feelings, and what happened that night when they were supposed to meet, and finally patch things up between them. It was heartwarming, and I enjoyed watching it and having the loose ends tied up. The scene just made the movie feel more complete. Another climactic scene for me was again at the end, when the old movie theatre was demolished, and the whole town watched as it crumbled. For them it had to be like their lives were being destroyed, it was just so powerful to watch the entire population of this town watch this single event which probably wouldn’t mean much to the average American today.
The Essay on Martin Scorsese Films Movies Movie
... of my favorite things to do is just kick back, relax, and watch a great movie. Almost all of Scorsese's films relate to his ... other media are. We already know that watching a movie is what people do to relax, when they are bored, its something ... directing is more natural and realistic. Much of his greatest scenes primarily are dialogue usually with some sort of conflict involved. ...
The scene was very emotionally stimulating. I think that the overall theme of Cinema Paradiso is that life, in some ways, imitates movies, that sometimes things work out alright in the end, like how Salvatore as a teen waited outside his true love, Elena’s balcony every night for more than three months until she loved him, and one day, she just comes to him and they kiss and they are in love. But this movie is also saying, that in some ways, life isn’t like the movies; things don’t get patched up, and we ” re left alone to heal and move on. As when Salvatore comes back to his home after his military service, and Elena isn’t there. Nothing is the same, and he has nothing there to live for anymore. He’s forced to leave and abandon all hope of seeing his only true love ever again.
It’s sad, but then again the overall feeling of this movie is sad and it seems too real.
