Shramdaan means doing some voluntary work through physical effort. Some one is not capable to give money to help in some activity like plantation,old age home or for orphanage but could teach orphan people and help in plantation or also could facilitate some work at old age home. Shramdan means basically it is social service with in the society and community for development where we keep our environment neat and clean . Shramdaan is a voluntary contribution of labour/extended for a certain cause, be it social or otherwise.Is consists of two words Shram – Labour and Daan – Donation/Contribution.Therefore, shramdaan is not necessarily a substitute of monetary contribution. The main aim behind the Shramdan Program is:
To motivate the villagers to live in hygienic surroundings.
To inculcate the importance of the clean and green surrounding
To appreciate and protect the serene beauty of the village.
To make them aware of the different types of the epidemics and diseases that break due to unclean surroundings.
To generate the feelings of cleanliness in the village. Shramdan’ is a social work. voluntarily providing physical help to any individual, group or community is known as shramdan, i.e construction of public road, public sanitation etc. help to flood victims etc. But this is not social work because in such cases /activities labour is given without any remuneration where as in SW activities, workers are paid. They are trained. Doing some voluntary work through physical effort is also called shramdan.
