LAN- Stands for local area network. This is usually confined to a small space such as a school, building, home, or a lab. In a typical LAN configuration, one computer is designated as the server. It stores all of the software that controls the network, as well as the software that can be shared by the computers attached to the network. MAN- Stands for metropolitan are network. This will cover a larger area such as cities or school districts.
By interconnecting smaller networks within a large geographic range information is easily transmitted through the MAN. WAN- Stands for wide area network. This is used to connect larger spans of area like the US, Ontario, or the world. An excellent example of a WAN would be the Internet. A WAN is complicated. It uses multiplexers to connect local and metropolitan networks to global communication networks.
3. As stated above, the range that each type of networks covers is the biggest difference. The LAN is used for small areas, the MAN for cities, and WAN for the world.
