Climatic Change on the Earths Temperature The issue on global warming or the increase in the temperature of the Earths surface including both the air and the waters has been an issue for the humankind as far back as the late fourteenth century. In fact, people started to notice the climate change when several areas in the northern hemisphere most notably in Europe experienced extreme cold and harsh weather conditions that triggered several famines during that time; not to mention the expansion of the glaciers. The scientists became even more alarmed when they noticed that by the middle of the seventeenth century the Earths climatic temperature has changed from cold to hot and nobody can seem to point out the cause of it. Even if the word greenhouse effect was coined in the late nineteenth century by the scientist, Svante Arrhenius, the theory that the Earths temperature is slowly increasing was properly explained by the French mathematician, Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier in 1824 (full article is published online on the Global Warming Newspaper Archive at the world wide web ).
The basic information about this earthly phenomenon was only fully made clear when both Arrhenius and later on G.S. Callendar gave the details about the causes, effects and impact of the changes in the Earths temperature.
The Essay on Earths Temperature
Scientists have found evidence that Earth’s temperature has been increasing over the past years. For instance, they found that in the Northern Hemisphere, ice began to melt 9 days earlier than it did 150 years ago. Moreover, in Alaska, western Canada and eastern Russia, the temperature has risen to as much as 4-7 degrees Fahrenheit. Earth’s temperature has been fluctuating between cold and warm ...
Although Callendars Theory led the way for further research on global warming, many scientists dismissed the claim and rather choose to favor another hypothesis that the climate change is due to the orbital changes of the earth. Careful study and evaluation of the findings by scientists in the past about possible causes, effects and impact of the slow yet continuous increase in the Earths climatic temperature will give the world a better perspective of what has been going on and where will this bring the earth and most especially, humankind. The study will present the differing theories about the occurrence and the claims about each. The historical background of the each theories will be an informative detail that will lead the readers into better understanding of the work. Global Warming is an ongoing phenomenon even before the man feels its effects and impact. Researches from across the world and from across time indicate that the continuing process of the Earths temperature change increases together with the population of the world and the amount of human activities that in one way or another emits or releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere (e.g. use of fossil fuels, massive burning of plastic products, use of carbon dioxide emitting products).
The objective of this paper is to provide proofs and evidences which will establish and confirm the claim that changes that the world is experiencing is not a twenty-first century crisis but rather an unshakable disaster that is only aggravated by the lifestyles and attitudes of the worlds population. An in-depth evaluation of the results of researches done about the topic and a substantial review of reports regarding observation about the Earths temperature will ensure that the papers findings and assumptions are based on factual and relevant information gathered throughout the years. Description and account of the different researches on global warming and newspaper articles (1400-1950, focusing on the years 1824-1917) that report and give information about the phenomenon will be used to explore the question about the validity of the claim that global warming started long before the earth observed its physical manifestations and that the amount of the increase in the Earths temperature is directly proportional to the number of carbon dioxide emission activities in the world. Using recent publications as well as current and latest investigations will also help in the corroboration of the findings. Works Cited Callendar, G.S.
