In comparing the collective society in Anthem by Ayn Rand, and the society that Prometheus envisions at the end of the book, there are many differences, and few similarities. The collective society is all about unity, and people living, breathing and doing everything together, while the way of life Prometheus dreams of and is hoping to create is free and not limited. There are no pecuniary concerns in either group, because there is no money. It seems there is not a need for capital.
The people care not a farthing for opulence. They don t even get to pick anything for themselves from a store or a commissary. The collective society is not militant, but there is reprisal for not conforming. Insurrection is not considered, and will never be considered.
They have no need to conscript people to join the fray because there are no frays. In Prometheus community there will be freedom, and ideas shared, very unlike his old way of living. Prometheus creates a community that in his mind takes away all the problems with his former society and reverses them. He creates a society that is so different from his old one that it must be better and it must solve all the old problems. Does he see any new problems that might arise; did he really create the perfect society? Nothing is perfect.
Nothing will fix everything. While the collective society is too far one way, his community could turn out to be too far the other way. New ideas are good, but extremes usually go too far. A delicate balance of good and evil, a combining of the two societies would probably produce a better result. Take the good from one and the good from the other and it just might work. There are many differences between the two societies, and there are few similarities.
