There have been many significant occurrences in my life. However I think that the absolute most significant is when I first started playing softball. Softball has pretty much built who I am today. I believe that deciding to play was one of the best decisions I have made in my almost eighteen years of living. I first started playing softball when I was five years old. I don’t necessarily remember how I got talked into playing, but I’m sure glad that I did. I couldn’t tell you about the very first game I played in, but I know the first position I played was third base. As I’ve grown in the softball world, I did more than play third base. I’ve played every position on the field except for catcher. I absolutely love playing this sport. I couldn’t imagine myself without it. If it wasn’t for softball, I wouldn’t have as much knowledge about the game as I do today. The impact this sport has had on my life is beyond belief. There have been times when I have been in the worst mood a person could be in, and softball has calmed me down. Softball is my stress reliever.
It’s helped me become a better person. I’ve learned what sportsmanship is, and how a negative attitude can affect everyone on the field/court. Softball has also boosted my self-confidence. At the start of my high school career in this game, I had zero confidence at the plate. However, since I have had proper coaching, I believe more in myself than I ever have before. With softball being the most significant occurrence in my life, I believe that everyone should find something that makes them feel as confident in themselves as softball does me. I think that any sport or activity that makes someone feel comfortable with themselves is one that they should stick with. I’ve stuck with softball for so long because I am not a quitter, and I feel like the softball field is one place I can be myself and not worry about what anyone has to say about my abilities.
