Facebook is a popular social network site that was discovered by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. This site allows you to find friends and colleagues from all over the world that you may have lost contact with over long periods of time.
To connect with old friends or colleagues, all one would have to do is simply find your friend finder link in the top corner, type in an email address or a name and from there everyone with that name will appear. From there you can search through pictures to find friends or colleagues then click send friend request.
At that point your friend on the other end would have a notification bar pop up telling him or her that they have a friend request from the individual who sent the request, then they will have the option to either except, or deny this request if they choose. As for your own page, Facebook allows you to share your personal opinions, pictures, and videos.
Facebook is convenient because unlike using a desktop or laptop you can just use your Smartphone which normally has the app already installed. That makes it much easier for users to upload comments, and status from their cell phones. Most people say Facebook is a boredom killer because it also allows you to download and play games online with friends and family, which in a sense will give you something to do for a while.
The Essay on Facebook Does More Harm Than Good
Facebook is a worldwide phenomenon with over 800 million users worldwide. It is a brilliant and free way of communicating with people we love, sharing memories and even saving lives. Despite the common miss-conception, Facebook causes more good than harm because it can save lives. Yes, I did just say that. Facebook can, and does, help solve crimes. If a crime has been committed, police and ...
However, just as well as there is good in Facebook, I have seen some bad in it as well. One of Facebook disadvantages is a person can get carried away with the amount of time spent on it. Many Facebook users will spend hours playing games, chatting with friends, or simply posting pictures, oblivious to time.
Another disadvantage would be is people posting derogatory statuses. For instance, many users see Facebook as a way to seek attention, and these same people will post the most outrageous, derogatory status he or she can muster up, hoping to get any kind of response. Then, not all friends have a picture of themselves. Sometimes it may be hard to locate friends if they have a picture of someone else like a child or anything other than themselves.
You also have to monitor your children on Facebook which is one of the greatest disadvantages because most children use internet for inappropriate reasons. Some use it as a tool to watch and post explicit material. A lot of today’s youth view Facebook as a way to meet new friends which is not all together a bad idea, however when you consider the day and age we live in, this could be very dangerous.
Unfortunately for Facebook many disturbed people have opened up Facebook accounts for other reasons than what it was created for. These disturbed individuals use their accounts to attack our youth physically and mentally.
Thus you have to constantly be aware of your children activities on Facebook. Although I have found old friends and colleagues and may even make a status or post some pictures occasionally, it’s not that big of a deal to me because to spend time on Facebook would have me lacking in other areas, such as work, school, yard work, and simply just maintaining small task around my house.
So for most part of it all, I will not allow myself to get lost in a social network for it to soak up unnecessary time.
