The world has long been seeking a way of healing that works deeply and gently to restore the sick to health. (Narrative hook) Though they work in different ways, the primary aim of both homeopathy (a system for the treatment of disease by minute doses of natural substances) and modern medicine is to alleviate pain, suffering and cure diseases in people. Both of these have different underlying principles and methods of dealing with the ailments. Modern medicine and homeopathic medicine both have their own place, but homeopathic medicine is often an alternative to costly modern medicine. Homeopathy works to eliminate the disease completely from the patient’s body while the main aim of modern medicine is to control the disease and deal with its symptoms. In modern medicine, the treatment does not take into account the body’s self healing capacity. In homeopathy, the treatment does not work directly on the body but actually helps the body to heal itself naturally. With modern medicine, diseases need to be measured and calibrated. Unless, it can be measured, it is not classified as a disease. Whereas with homeopathy any change in the physical, mental, emotional, or psychological state can be considered as an imbalance and is taken into account and treated. Modern medicines have associated side effects and illnesses in many cases.
The Essay on Diseased Body in Wuthering Heights
In Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte it can be viewed that there is “more suffering caused by a diseased mind than by a diseased body.” The idea of a “diseased mind” is a mental illness or madness and the “diseased body” is a physical illness or injury, both of which are displayed by many characters in Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff is a prime example of a character with a “diseased mind” that ...
The side effects and risks of homeopathic treatments are not well researched outside of observational studies, but some general points can be made about the safety of these treatments, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. (Authority) Highly diluted, homeopathic remedies, taken under the supervision of trained professionals, are generally considered safe and unlikely to cause severe reactions. Homeopathic remedies are not known to interfere with conventional drugs. Homeopathy means that different symptoms are considered to be the manifestations of a single underlying medicine and therefore treated with the same medicine and same homeopath. However, modern medicine means that different symptoms are treated with different medicines and at times by different doctors who specialize in different parts of the body. In modern medicine, surgery is often used to complement the treatment; if something cannot be cured, it is removed. (Compound sentence and semi-colon)
Surgery is rarely used in homeopathy and the focus is on healing with natural medicines and remedies. If antibiotics are used too often for things they can’t treat — like colds, flu or other viral infections — they become less effective against the bacteria they’re intended to treat. (Topic sentence) Not taking antibiotics exactly as prescribed also leads to problems. For example, if you take an antibiotic for only a few days — instead of the full course — the antibiotic may wipe out some but not all of the bacteria. The surviving bacteria become more resistant and can be spread to other people. When bacteria become resistant to first line treatments, the risk of complications and death is increased. In the United States alone, ninety thousand Americans die each year of antibiotic-resistant infections they contracted in the hospital that could be cured with simple homeopathic methods. (transitional sentence and statistic) That stunning figure is higher than the death toll from AIDS, car accidents and prostate cancer combined.
There are several homeopathic alternatives the can be used in place of antibiotics: grapefruit bioflavonoids concentrate works well to help knock out a cold. Grapefruit seed extract is a product you can use if you feel an infection coming on. You can take one 100 mg tablet every four to five hours or a few drops of the liquid. There are also anecdotal reports from women that grapefruit seed extract will effectively cure urinary tract infections. The herb Echinacea, sometimes combined with goldenseal in formulas, is an effective immune stimulant, but works best when used early on in an infection. Olive leaves have been used medicinally for centuries to treat fever, malaria, colds, and fungal infections. Modern research shows that a bitter constituent of olive leaves called oleuropein has antibacterial, antiviral, and antiprotozoal effects. The best way to take olive leaf as a supplement is as an extract in capsule or liquid form.

Oscillococcinum is a homeopathic remedy for preventing and relieving the symptoms of the flu. This is a great remedy to travel with and to keep in the medicine cabinet, as it can quickly knock out a flu. While modern medicine has its place in such things as surgeries and transplants, homeopathic methods can be used in place of many antibiotics, immunizations, and other minor treatments. Homeopathic medicines also have the advantages of being able to be done at home or where ever you are, are far cheaper, require no appointment at a doctor’s office, and are usually, far healthier.
