Running his two-mile run at PT (a military acronym for Physical Training) has gotten harder for him and his heart rate beats like a drummer in a band playing a drum roll. Larry’s doctor has explained to him that he needs to quit smoking and why he needs to quit smoking. Smoking is one of the leading causes of death, curves your appetite and causes you to gain weight. As a good friend to Larry I am trying to help him by convincing Larry to quit smoking.
I knew it was not going to be easy to accomplish. I researched as much information as I could to help Larry. Information like smoking causes cancer, heart attacks, as well as the fact that cigarette tobacco has a lot of different chemicals in it. Some examples are, Arsenic (used in rat poison), Cadmium (used in batteries) and Hydrogen Cyanide (used in gas chambers).
I explained to Larry that continuing to smoke could cause cancer or a heart attack. I also told him he should think about the effect smoking has on his family. When I offered to help Larry, he was glad of the thought of some one helping him to quit smoking.

I let him know that I respected his decision and will be taking him seriously about wanting to quit smoking. I also explained to him the different type of poisons he was inhaling into his body, hoping that would make him think about what he was doing to his-self by smoking. Smoking was lowering his hormone level and continuing to smoke would cause him to get sick more often. To help him quit I mentioned that he should exercise to get his mind off smoking, eat healthier and try to keep busy around the office, since there is no smoking in government buildings anymore.
As long as he is busy in the office that would help slow down his smoking. Being that Larry was a penny-pincher I showed him how much money he would save in a year. After about four months Larry quit smoking. It has been three years since I helped Larry and he has not smoked since. You only have one pair of lungs. Any damage you do to them now will be with you for the rest of your life. The longer you smoke, the better your chances are of dying from it. One out of every three smokers die from smoking and many more become very sick. A cigarette contains about four-thousand chemicals, many of which most people do not even know about.
We all should be educated about smoking, so we can help the ones we love and that are dear to us quit. The argument of smoking is summed up by stating that smoking has an effect more than just your life. It has an effect on everyone around you. When you smoke you exhale second hand smoke, which is worse to someone that does not smoke. Most people start smoking as teenagers. When they grow up they wish that they had never started smoking. It is your decision it is all up to you, but you should think about if it is right for you or your body. .
