The effect of water and fertilizer on corn seedlings was examined. It was hypothesized before the experiment that enough water with sunlight and air should make the plants grow healthy. It has to do with photosynthesis. Fertilizer is also going to make the plants grow much faster; this is because of the nutrients in it. The experiment took about four to six weeks to complete; it took some days for the seed to germinate before planting. The corn was growing there were four different groups for they were the control, drought, fertilizer, and double water. There was enough sunlight and water for them all according to the groups. T-tests were taken to get the p-value and t value, the leaf area, height, and biomass were measured and were compared with each other to be able to get the results. At the end, the experiment turned out to be successful and came to a conclusion.
Introduction
Plants need nutrients for their growth; this experiment was the growth of corn/maize. Photosynthesis plays a big role in plants, it is the way plants use light energy, water and carbon dioxide to make sugar, which is like a fuel to the plant. When light energy is changed to chemical energy, it forms glucose molecules, which are the building blocks of plant cells. Plant nutrient is also something important in plant growth, there are three primary nutrients that must be present in plants, and they are Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), and Nitrogen (N).
Phosphorus is essential because it promotes cell division, stimulant plant production and root development. Potassium helps with photosynthesis, seed development and disease resistance. If the plants is under water stress (drought), the availability of nutrients in the plants would be affected, which is not good because plants need enough nutrients to grow (Farouk et al.2012).
The control group versus the drought group the control group was healthier than the drought group because it had more water, with that it grew healthy. The control group versus the fertilizer group were the closely the same thing the difference is that they were planted with water and fertilizer. In this experiment, 16 corn seeds were used and separated into 4 groups. The corn seeds were first of all germinated before planting by keeping them in a wet towel for some days. Water used to grow the plants was left overnight so that any chance of chlorine being in the water would escape. There was also a gallon of fertilizer, which was mixed together with water, so as to wet the group that needs fertilizer. The first group was the control group and that is only water and was measured for thirty millimeters, the second group was drought, the water added to the seed is very little water used was five millimeters, the third group just with fertilizer and no water, the amount of fertilizer used is thirty millimeters, the fourth group was double water that is twice of the water added to the normal which is much more than the control group. It took four to six weeks for the plants to grow. A standard t-test was used to determine statistically the average of the groups.
Results
In the experiment, the drought group was the least grown amongst all the groups because it lacked water. The other three grew well and they were compared with each other using the t-test. The comparism was between height, biomass, and leaf area of the four groups. The leaf area was measured by taking the length and width of the corn leaves, Biomass was measured as the weight of the whole plant of each group, then the height was measured with how long the plant was. There were nine t-tests carried out. T-test one was between control group height and drought height the t value/t-test was 3.61 and the p- value 0.0143.
Control mass and drought mass was the second, the t-test was 3.02 while the p-value is 0.0383. The third t-test was compared between control leaf area and drought area, the t-test result was 2.65, and the p value was 0.0518. Control height and fertilizer height were both compared and the t-test was 0.45 while the p-value was 0.6807. T-test five was between control mass and fertilizer mass, the t-test result was 1.81 and the p-value 0.1760. The sixth t-test was compared between, control leaf area and fertilizer leaf area, the t-test was 2.04 while the p-value was 0.0965. Control height and double water height was compared the t-test was 0.58 and p-value 0.5842. T-test eight was carried out between control mass and double water mass the outcome was 1.44, the p-value 0.2401.The ninth t-test was between control leaf area and double water leaf area, the t-test was 0.78 while the p-value 0.4696.

The purpose of the experiment is to know the true result and the conclusion. The result of the study supports that the control group and fertilizer would be the best of all groups. There were about nine t-tests taken and from there the results will be concluded. In the result, we got the t-value and the p-value of each compared group. We got the average leaf area, biomass, and height of each group. The first hypothesis is the control group and the drought. The p-value for the control group and drought height is 0.0143 this is a null hypothesis because it is less than 0.05.The conclusion for this is that we have to reject the hypothesis it means that drought is not a good plant and does not have enough nutrients for the plant to grow tall. Control mass and drought mass, p-value is 0.038. It is less than 0.05 so we have to also reject hypothesis. The control leaf area and drought leaf area, p-value is 0.0518 which is equal to 0.05 that means it is an alternative hypothesis so we accept it. The second hypothesis is control and fertilizer, earlier on it’s stated that this two are close to each other.
The control group and the fertilizer group the p-value for the height is 0.6807 and we have to accept alternative hypothesis because it is greater than 0.05. The experiment would be done better when there is enough sunlight, when the plants are wet every other day without missing a day.
