Bravery is a characteristic that, over the years, has had much consideration. Every person has their own idea of what “bravery” means. Some think of soldiers in perilous wars, or great pioneers of unconventional ideas. Legend after legend and myth after myth has been told by millions of people throughout history in order for each individual society to create its own idea of bravery and what the burden of being brave entails. Consequently, one could infer that I, myself, have put some thought into the definition of what this notorious word means. As a matter of fact, I have found a perfect example. His full name is Andrew Charles Bryant, but why stick with such cumbersome formality? I doubt I’ve ever even heard the man say his full name unless he was filling out meaningless paperwork or something of the sort. My wonderful father goes by the name Andy, and he is unequivocally the bravest man that I have ever seen. As an illustration, my father’s occupation exemplifies bravery in my opinion. He serves the community of Hernando county as a firefighter/paramedic.
Every time he goes to work, he saves numerous lives! He’s the one that shows up to every emergency, whether it’s a horrendous car accident or a blazing fire. I believe that it would take great courage to risk one’s own life to save strangers, which is something he does frequently. I don’t know about the general population, but if I were to encounter a large fire, it would seem logical for me to run for my life. My father, on the contrary, runs into the fire for other people’s lives. It may be against human nature, but it’s very necessary and courageous. Not to mention, my father sacrifices crucial things such as eating and sleeping for the benefit of others due to his job as well. It doesn’t matter if he hasn’t eaten all day and he’s just finished preparing himself a meal. Once that alarm sounds, he’s off to save the day. This is something I’ll always respect Andy Bryant for.

Furthermore, Christianity is the core belief in my family. It is very important to us that we have a relationship with Jesus Christ and conduct ourselves accordingly. The Bible is very clear about the role of a man. He is to work hard to provide for his family, love them, and guide them in the ways of the Lord.. My father undoubtedly lives up to these standards, and I think that takes bravery. He assumes all the responsibility of taking care of us, and teaching us how to live. I believe it takes a considerable amount of courage to be a role model, and my dad couldn’t be a better one.
Moreover, my relationship with my father has not always flowed easily. There was a time in my life where him and I didn’t actually know each other. I was very rebellious, and my mother gave me an extremely tremulous up bringing. By the time that I was able to get to know my father, I wanted nothing to do with him. I pushed him away in every way that I could. I was cold, hurt, and angry, and I had the perception that he was going to be like every other man that I had encountered in my life, abusive, malicious, and drunken. It would have been the obvious, sensible thing to do if he would have let me go.
Why should he have put himself through so much pain for a little girl who hated him and the rest of the world? Despite of all this, my father showed immense bravery and perseverance, and he fought for me. He never stopped showing me love, and showing me that everything could be okay if I let it. I hit rock bottom before I finally came to my senses, but in the end, he won me over. Where most people would have been afraid to keep trying, and would have given up, my father pushed through our obstacles. I will always be thankful for that.
All in all, my father, Andy Bryant, fits my definition of bravery. Honestly, he is the one who helped me create my own idea of what it means to be brave. He fights for others, for his entire family, and specifically for me. He is always willing to be self-sacrificing when the cause is worth it. I hope to be as brave as he is someday, in my own way.
