Geodesy
Geodesy is a scientific branch that is gaining more popularity over the years. It is still quite an unknown as far as the world of jobs go, but it is a very interesting field that should quickly grow. Geodesy is the science of mathematically determining the size and shape of the earth and the nature of the earth s gravity field. It applies the principles of geometry to surveying and mapping the earth. Geodesy itself has many avenues that an interested person could travel. Many specialists in the filed also refer to something called geomatics, which directly connects to geodesy. Geodesists will take geographical information and analyze it with computer hardware and software. This process is very important to environmental studies, monitoring dams, oil fields, navigation of ships, and oceanography. A typical person in the field of geodesy could have many various tasks throughout their day. Some would use Geographical Information Systems to perform computer queries between maps and databases. Others would use GPS to make observations, process data, and train. There is also a need for urban and rural planning or software development. Basically, as a geodesist there are a variety of tasks that one could perform throughout any given day, but for the most part one would be surveying and observing the land.
To become an elite geodesist is not an easy task. It takes a lot of hard work and education to get to the point where one can begin to work. Good High School grades are important so that a person can get into a college with a geodesy program. Science and math grades are the most important as that is what is used on the job. Going to an undergraduate program at a four year college is next in the educational ladder. There are schools in the U.S. and abroad that train in this field. For example, a prospective student could go to school all the way in Australia, or they could attend a closer program at the University of Maine at Orono. In order to take a class at one of these colleges, many prerequisites are needed. These prerequisites are in the math and science field and include multiple levels of math, geology, and physics. Most first studies will focus on earth s kinematics, earth s gravity field, size and shape, and earth s temporal deformations. As the process continues courses get more into terrestrial, celestial, and orbital coordinate systems, coordinate transformations, and positioning in three dimensions. After graduating from a program one could go further into a graduate program or enter the working world. The cost of education is very expensive. To attend most four-year colleges can cost between 15,000 and 35,000 dollars depending on where one goes. The advantage is that scholarships are available and the field is not yet watered down. Also, companies are in high demand for people in the geodesy field so high salaries are available to pay off those college loans.
The Term Paper on Magnetic Field Sphere Earth Stars
It is impossible to briefly run through all the problems of a hypothesis advanced, so only its main assumptions almost unsupportable by factual evidence are given in the present paper. In my opinion, the hypothesis as a whole is provable. It can partly be proved by knowledge of today and expected in the future. 1.The Origin and the Structure of our Universe I suppose that the Universe we can ...
The opportunities for a career are bountiful. Over the internet there are 47 private companies currently hiring or looking for prospective applicants. There are 15 governmental positions not including any in the U.S. area. Positions arise in Canada, the south and west U.S., England, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. The type of job that one accepts determines their salary. If a government position is taken, then pay will be less, but benefits usually provided. Whereas, working for a private company can net some upwards around 100,000 dollars per year, but not all private companies provide benefits. Another factor is the amount of work to be done. Working for a big name company often means many hours of hard work. By taking a lesser paying or government job, that often means more time to oneself. Job security is probably more solid at the government or lower level position because at the high level if the work isn t getting done, the job is lost. Job satisfaction should be very high in this field. It is very specialized so if someone is in the field it is probably because they enjoy it. Also, a lot of the information that is produced is for a good cause. The work of geodesists is used in safe navigation, management and control of fisheries, waste management control, erosion control, exploration for mineral resources, and pollution predictions. There is also lots of room for advancement in this field. There are employment opportunities with federal, provincial, and municipal government departments and agencies. There are also opportunities to teach at a college or university. Lastly, people can enter the private company world where the pay is highest. Within every path are job advancements. One could start as a surveyor, then become a supervisor, then a director for example. Or in the private world, one could work they way to partner.
