Character’s experiences
“I-man was gone, flown off to Africa. There was a jagged hole in the center of his forehead and a whole lot of blood running down the bamboo wall behind his head into the sand. Oh it was a horrible sight…somehow the whole terrible thing felt like it was my fault and there was no way to make it right” (Pg. 340)
-Chappie shows maturity, more sympathy toward others and partly responsible
for his friend I-man’s death.
“ Plus I’d changed in ways that even I didn’t understand yet.” (Pg. 347)
-The reader can see Chappie is on the road to self-discovery and he is ready to
have acceptance in the world.

-After Chappie confronted his stepfather he felt older and wiser because he was
able to take control of a situation instead of just allowing himself to be taken
advantage of.
Character’s actions
“Now I’m a criminal. Now I’m a real criminal.” (Pg.23)
-Shows that Chappie knew he was on the path to becoming a criminal; he
showed his acceptance of this lifestyle by getting a tattoo, shoplifted from the
mall, drug dealing, etc. Later in the novel, Chappie has a different view of his
lifestyle.
“What a stupid wasteful thieving little bastard I’ve turned out to be…” (Pg. 180)
The Essay on A Day In Criminal Court
This week I had the opportunity to sit in on criminal court proceedings. I chose to visit the White Plains Court House for the day and noticed quite a few things through out the whole experience. I have been to different courts in the past, criminal, traffic, and family, but never in the White Plains building. -Realizes why he was a disposed teenager. Chappie hates who he has become
and knows he is going to have to change this if he wants to be excepted by
others.
“ No one in his right mind would want to stay a kid forever. Certainly not me.” (Pg.387)
-Although he had a horrible childhood he realizes that there is still hope for his
future. He knows that the world is a cruel place yet he knows that does not
have to stop him from having a pleasant future.
