Argument Essay: distance education or traditional education
Many business, professionals, and companies are finding that going back to school via distance learning is a convenient and affordable way to do what is needed to stay on top of their game in today’s workforce. One can choose the time; course and program one wishes to pursue to either get ahead or get started in life. However, distance education is not for everyone and some people find it is much difficult than it appears to be.
Distance education offers one the flexibility to obtain a degree while at the same time maintain gainful employment. I find this aspect of it to be very useful to me. As a teacher in a government run pre-school, we have a schedule that we follow on a daily basis if I am to leave the classroom to attend a class; it puts the strain on my coworkers who now have to pick up the slack left in my absence. Another advantage of distance education is that I can take the time to study, read and fully understand the lesson for the course I am working on this gives me the opportunity to maintain an A average not saying that I would not be able to maintain an A average, using traditional education but I am at a more relaxed pace and I don’t have the added pressure of worrying about my job, with coverage in the classroom.

Another positive element of distance education is the affordability of tuition payments. Most schools have a monthly payment plan. This helps with being able to adjust your monthly budget to include a payment plan. Self discipline is also needed in using distance education. One must make time to read and complete their assignments; this can be helpful as it can help you to manage your time to get the most out of your lessons.
Traditional education has been the normal way for higher education for a majority of years. One has always been expected to attend a 4 year institution, and walk away with a college diploma. After that is accomplished, a job in their field of study was followed and every one lived happily ever after, and distance education was never thought of. However, not everyone can handle the rigors of traditional education, thus as distance education became popular, it helped with delaying the norm of traditionalist views about college.
Traditional education offers many merits that you cannot get with distance education. One has the option of going away to another state to attend college thus starting the independence process or the transition into adulthood. There will be no parents looking over your every move, or always there when you need immediate advice on a problem. One also has to make sure they get themselves up for classes on time along with making sure they have food to eat and budget their monies or even find a job to help out with financing their education, and daily living expenses. This can be difficult to do if one has been lucky enough to have all the comforts of home available to them, and suddenly they are thrown into being an adult. This can be difficult to do with distance education since it can be done in the comforts of one’s home.
Traditional education also offers a social aspect one can meet people from all walks of life. Sometimes close relationships are formed between roommates or the opposite sex. Many people have gone to college and meet their husband or wife there. There is also the excitement of joining a fraternity or sorority and go through the initiation process there you will experience what it means to be part of a team and have others depend on you.
