In my belief Drug use should be allowed, the one thing that shouldn’t be allowed is Drug Abuse. Many aspects of the government’s campaigns to help people avoid trouble with drugs center on fear, like this is your brains on drugs campaign. People should be treated with knowledge not fear. This has led the public to believe many myths about drug use. Like “smoking Cannabis leads to Heroin addiction”, and “everybody at raves uses Ecstasy” those are few of many other misconceptions. I believe people should look at current medical approved drugs more than the common illegal drugs.
An example of this would be Ritalin or an anti-depressant for example; both of these drugs are in high use here in the United States. I’m sure everyone knows someone who is taking those types of drugs because they are very commonly prescribed. I was prescribed a few anti-depressants a while back but I decided not to take them. Every day I hear of people who are hooked on those drugs or parents that give and give drugs to little children. I consider that extreme drug abuse even if it’s legal. I also believe that the majority of drugs should be legalized considering first the natural made ones like marijuana.
Some illegal drugs of course should not be legalized it all depends on their severity. I remember when Fen Phen was a wonder drug for weight loss but when they found out they were actually killing people at their expense everything fell apart. Fen Phen should have been studied more thoroughly than just trying to push it out to make a really quick buck (In 1996 alone, there were 18, 000, 000 prescriptions written for fen phen).

Drugs that have been in existence for longer tend to be safer than new drugs. For many people who use drugs illegally, the drugs they buy are the medication that makes them feel better, and they will continue to use drugs until they discover other ways of taking control of their lives.
