E-business (EB) is the application of electronic technology to business. Business is all the transactions involved in supporting or the activity of buying, selling, trading, or delivery of goods, services or products (Funk, 2003).
IBM defines e-business as the process of using Web technology to help businesses streamline processes, improve productivity and increase efficiencies. EB enables companies to easily communicate with partners, vendors and customers, connect back-end data systems and transact commerce in a secure manner.
EB refers to a broader definition of e-commerce, which is the buying and selling of goods and services, but also servicing customers, collaborating with business partners, and conducting electronic transactions with an organization (Turban, 2002).
A major trend in communications is toward interconnecting different networks to create an internetwork. The Internet is the name of a public, international collection of interconnected WANs and LANs. Intranet is an internet-type network entirely within the business organization used by only the users in the business.
Extranet is an extension of a corporate intranet using World Wide Web technology to facilitate communication with the corporation’s suppliers and customers. An extranet allows customers and suppliers to gain limited access to a company’s intranet in order to enhance the speed and efficiency of their business relationship. E-Government Business Model E-Government refers to the use of information and communications technologies to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability of government. E-Government also refers to the use by government agencies of information technologies (such as Wide Area Networks, the Internet, and mobile computing) that have the ability to transform relations with citizens, businesses, and other arms of government. Analogous to e-commerce, which allows businesses to transact with each other more efficiently (B 2 B) and brings customers closer to businesses (B 2 C), e-government aims to make the interaction between government and citizens (G 2 C), government and business enterprises (G 2 B), and inter-agency relationships (G 2 G) more friendly, convenient, transparent, and inexpensive (e-Government, 2003).
