Education in America needs serious reform. The ways in which schools are to this day are the same way they were when our parents were in school. This way of teaching is getting very old and redundant. A change must be made soon. We are living in a time where technology is booming, where jobs require more education, and where secondary schools just haven’t caught up with the new fast-paced society. Here at CBHS in particular there are ways to “catch up”. Through programs such as Career Pathways, which will guide students into the path of their career choice. Block scheduling, better discipline, and various changes in school structure and curriculum can assist in this new restructure of education in America.
There are principles that can promote the base of the school. One would be, the school should help students to learn to use their minds well. The teacher should not just give forth information, but teach in a manor in which it helps the student to teach themselves on their own as well. If students rely on the teachers the whole time they aren’t learning anything at all except how to let others think for them, when they should think for themselves. The curriculum taught could have a big effect on this principle. The change to be made here is that the teachers start to change their agendas so that the things being taught will stimulate self thought and work. Such as when a student asks the teacher a question, the teacher answers back with another question. This often gets minds going. It may be a little annoying but it gets the job done.
The Essay on To What Extent Should High School Students Be Allowed To
To What Extent Should High School Students be allowed to Exercise Freedom of Speech While on Campus I think that nowadays to deal with an issue of students free speech rights is a tough problem for High School administrators. The matter is that students free speech is protected by the First Amendment. Thus it means that students are allowed to exercise free speech while on campus. But what should ...
A second principle is, school’s goals should be simple- “less is more.” The goals of a school should apply to all. So for example, fundraisers should not just be for the drama club, but should also go forth towards sports as well. No one should really feel like they are being left out of the school’s plan. Don’t expect whizzes, just let the students know that if they just do their honest best they will be able to make it.
A third principle is, maximum student capacity to a teacher is 80 students. We want the teachers to have a good relationship with their students. It is better to have 80 kids and know each by name, than to have 200 and know each by a student #. When the instructor knows the students personally they can help them better because they actually know somewhat of what is going on in their minds. The school’s structure could help with this principle. More classrooms could be built so that there aren’t too many kids in each class.
A fourth principle is to have students be required to do an exhibition in order to graduate. Too many times students pass with flying colors without really showing that what they have done has really been worthwhile to them or not. Maybe there could be a number of different diplomas given too. So there would be different categories of graduating rather than one main diploma. It isn’t really fair for someone who has taken honors all 4 years to get the same diploma as an average level class taker. But then again this may just benefit the higher of the people. So in a case like this it would be up to the student to make the choice whether or not to try harder. An exhibition would be a display of all that they have learned in their years of schooling. It serves as evidence that they got anything out of their secondary education. Obviously the curriculum is to be changed for this principle. From the first day of their freshmen year the teachers should be emphasizing the graduation requirements and let them know what is to be expected of them.
The fifth principle is the staff should be open to doing their particular job, plus more. They will not just be a teacher, or just an office secretary. But they in addition should know they have the responsibility of being a friend, counselor, and someone that the students can depend on. Role models are the key words in this one.
The Homework on Good Student And Good Teacher
Good teachers have a good qualifications and subject knowledge; they are organised, energetic and have empathy and good communication skills. This is obviously important for good education. However, it is really the diligence and intelligence of the student that determines whether learning will be successful or not. Although every student benefits from good teachers, only a fraction of a ...
The last principle is that everyone treats each other with fairness, generosity, and tolerance. The school should show non-discriminatory policies and practices. It should be a democracy, everyone can contribute ideas. The school should honor diversity and do things to build up strengths in the community. A change in discipline could help with making sure that a nice tolerant tone is kept throughout the school. When students attack each other with criticism it can really damage someone. When things like this happen action should be taken like give detentions for unreasonable gestures.
The discipline in the school pertains very much to whether or not it will be good and organized or not so good and out of control. A simple rule is 3 strikes and you’re out. These 3 strikes would basically be 3 suspensions and then you are expelled. Obviously if you have a more drastic action that counts far more than a suspension, like murder, you are automatically out of the school. You don’t get a 2nd and 3rd chance.
Security on campus is very important also. The matter of wearing school ID’s seems to be a pretty good and secure way to make sure that the people who belong on campus are there and the people who don’t belong there aren’t there. Until there is another way to identify students (like electronic attendance devices) the ID’s, in this writer’s position, are a must.
So in conclusion we have a very long way to a perfect school. The question of whether or not CBHS is ever going to get on the ball and start making adjustments relies upon how badly we want a better school. Education in America needs serious reform. It can and will be done because times have changed and schools have to catch up and get out of the rut that they are in at the moment.
