1. Trace the path of an oxygen molecule from the air outside you to your tissues.
It starts with the oxygen outside then you breathe the oxygen in to your lungs. The oxygen that was in the air absorbs into your blood vessels in your lungs and then attaches to a hemoglobin molecule. The hemoglobin molecule carries the oxygen. The blood that was saturated with oxygen in the lungs then travels to the heart and is pumped out of the body from the aorta. If blood reaches an area that is low in oxygen the hemoglobin molecule releases oxygen.
2. Trace the path of food from ingestion to defecation. Briefly describe what happens at each stop on the journey. (See figs 14.11 and fig 14.13 in your text for some hints!)
You chew your food, you then swallow. The food travels through the esophagus, from your esophagus it goes down to your stomach. Once it reaches your stomach, strong acids and enzymes digest or break down the food into small particles. The particles it breaks the food down to are called proteins, fats and carbohydrates. After leaving your stomach, the particles enter the small intestine. The small intestine slowly contracts or squeezes, to push food along through it. The small intestine absorbs nutrients that your body uses for energy, growth, and repairs. By the time the food reaches the end of the small intestines almost all the nutrients
