Roy Rehberg Elements of religious tradition The following paper will explain how religious traditions encourage relationships with the divine, the sacred time, the natural world, and with each other. The paper will provide examples from other religious traditions such as belief in one God, church on Sundays, and this student’s personal religious beliefs and traditions.
Religion has been an important aspect of every culture for the entire known history of mankind and every religion throughout history has been made of a few essential elements. Although each religious tradition was developed in different parts of the world, every tradition has its own set of teaching, texts, doctrines, and stories. Throughout history, every religion has its own set of traditions in relationship to how one is to pray, worship, and the types of rituals expected from its followers. Each religion also has its own leadership and overall organization.
These major tenets exist in every major and even minor religion throughout history including modern traditions and religious points of view. The teachings within a tradition outline essential points of understanding as well as guidelines to be followed. Ultimately the goal is to allow people the capacity to connect with and experience the sacred aspects of life or to experience God for those religions that focus on a god. The methods used vary from one religion to the next and include various forms of worship and expected methods of practice and even daily living.
The Essay on Sacred Place Life Religion Religious
People are religious for many reasons. These include the difference religion makes in life and how religious beliefs influence actions. Religion structures a religious person's life. More than three quarters of the world's population consider they belong to a religion. All aspects of religion are reasons for a person to be religious. For some, the difference that sacred places, books, prayer and ...
These methods vary from one tradition to the next and include prayer, meditation, regular attendance at religious services on Sundays, pilgrimage, rituals, and various other forms of worship and understanding. Religion during history has constantly worked to provide a structure from which anyone can work and ultimately improve their connection with the divine source that runs through all of life while at the same time provide people with the capacity to discover one’s own answers for the mysteries of life.
Honoring the sacred is an essential aspect of the human experience. There are few people who, even if they don’t follow a religious set of rules or traditions, don’t experience the sacred in their daily lives in some form. Many are not aware of the sacred in their daily lives, but everyone experiences it. For example, the primary core teaching of Buddhism is to be unconditionally kind, loving, and compassionate toward all forms of life including oneself.
In order to do this, Buddhism used daily meditation and prayer in order to connect with the divine and to remove the ego part of one which is responsible for all of the self-centered and selfish motives and actions that lie within each of us. By learning to focus ones energy, time, attention, and focus on the service and love of others and by releasing any desire for one’s own selfish cravings to be satisfied, enlightenment can be attained in this lifetime in the here and now. On a personal note this writer practices the traditions of Christianity.
Christianity means to be Christ-like or to work diligently at conducting oneself as Christ. Some of the traditions in this religion include attending church on Sundays, taking communion once a month, having private time with God through prayer and meditation, fellowshipping with other Christians, and practicing faith and to believe in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This student’s belief in God came solely from life’s hardships and experiences. The faith was established by finding the answers in the hurt through prayer and meditation and putting my faith to work.
My Work Experience Week
My Work Experience Week I travelled to France for my work experience to improve my French whilst gaining some valuable experience in the world of work. I left for France from Portsmouth on Friday arriving early on the Saturday morning. I had an enjoyable weekend; getting to know my host family, speaking French, and having a welcome break from schoolwork. I commenced working on Monday morning at 8 ...
This student put her faith to work in various different ways; for example, when applying for school I experienced a great amount of self-doubt, but because my belief in the scriptures of when the Bible says, self-doubt is man’s greatest weakness I did not allow myself to become paralyzed in self-doubt. The fear of not doing became greater than my fear of doing, which motivated my actions to apply and be accepted at UOPX. I strongly believe that positive things happen to positive thinkers. You grow what you plant, so if I am planting negative thoughts I will grow negative results and vice versa.
The human mind can never conceive or understand the spiritual mind; even now it is difficult to put into words the point I am trying to convey about putting faith to work. It is in my religious tradition to believe that God is omnipresent. An example of this stems from my own horrid experience of sadistic abuses and great destruction on the body that could have led to lifelong diseases or death. The omnipresence of God I believe was that even in my greatest paths of destruction he favored and bestowed upon me grace, and without grace, which is unmerited favor there could be no room for mercy.
The mercy interceded when I was granted grace and without grace I would be a lost cause. In addition, although life seems chaotic and random, religious traditions provide a clear method for people to make sense of that chaos and to ultimately see the gentle beauty and ease from which all things arise and occur from within that chaos. The teachings, texts, stories, rituals, organization, and overall traditions used by every religion in the world provide a sense of comfort and understanding in order to provide some deeper sense of fulfillment and purpose in life.
