If management does not implement a plan to effectively communicate with these employees the climate of this office team can go south because the employees were not made aware of the direction that the company wanted to go in. Management should use these plans to implement a Management of Objective (MBO) plan. “Management by objectives (MBO) emphasizes participatively set goals that are tangible, verifiable and measurable (Robbins & Judge, 2011, pg 215).
Implementing the MBO will help to motivate the employee to succeed and move in the direction of the company.
Motivation is defined as “the processes that account for an individual’s to intensity, direction and persistence of effort toward attaining a goal” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, pg 204).
When you implement the motivational tools you give employees a direction in which they should go and management has a tool to use to see if they are moving in the direction the company wants to go. For each employee there are different theories that we can be applied to Maritza, Lisa and Gail. The theory to apply to Maritza is goal setting.
Goal Setting is a “theory that says that specific and difficult goals, with feedback, lead to higher performance (Robbins & Judge, 2011, pg 215).
Maritza is the employee that requires goal to be set and measured throughout the year. As goals are met we can add additional goals so that at the end of the year everything is measurable and attainable. Include Maritza on meetings regarding the changes in her task or changes within the company that effect her task so that she is an active participant and does not feel left out. The first action plan is for Maritza to attend Excel and Power Point classes.

The next task is to complete a simple Power Point with bullets of one of our various programs. Lisa the employee follows the self determination theory. Self determination “proposes that people prefer to feel they have control over their actions, so anything that makes a previously enjoyed task feel more like and obligation than a freely chosen activity will undermine motivation (Robbins & Judge, 2011, pg 211).
Lisa can be assigned and task and will work on her own to understand and commit to doing a good job. Lisa is not motivated by the accolades from management but from doing a good job. In her job in law enforcement her accomplishments is measured when she is able to help someone or make a good arrest. The action plan for Lisa is to keep encouraging her. Gail’s interest is in helping senior citizens and her job allows are the ability to do.
Self-concordance is “The degree to which peoples’ reasons for pursuing goals are consistent with their interest and core values (Robbins & Judge, 2011, pg 213)” She treats the seniors as her own parents and will walk that extra mile for them. Gail needs to know when to cut it off and allow the family to take up the needs of the seniors. Gail does feel that management does not support her and that she is not receiving good communication from management. Gail’s plan of action would be to continue to encourage. Management will set up regular meetings with Gail to ensure communication lines are open and she feels secure with the company.
