In this essay I will try to illustrate how Hitler managed to achieve power in Germany without the path of a military coup or! ^0 patch! +/-. I will show how the somewhat known! ^0 most evil man in history! +/- flirted with the German laws to achieve his goals. I will look at the nazi campaign from after the stressmen years to Hitler! s dubbing himself F”uhrer. A key factor of Hitler! s original appointment as chancellor that led to him being named F”uhrer is that Hindenburg; the president at the time of Hitler! s appointment had already seen many chancellors fail miserably unable to solve Germanys increasing problems with the previous chancellors. B runing, a simple minded chancellor who led Germany for two years trying to rule by decree but upon Germany and Hindenburg’s realisation that he was failing to pull Germany out of the depression he was sacked. The next chancellor to reward Germany with their presence was Papen who was only in office because of a special personal relationship with Hindenburg and Hindenburg! s hatred for Hitler but the Reichstag never had any confidence in him and he was soon dispersed of by them.
Another of the reasons Papen left was because general Schleicher warned Papen of not ruling by decree, Schleicher then followed him as chancellor but also followed him in his want to rule by decree because he also like Papen never had any support by the Reichstag so he was finally asked to leave to. This left Hindenburg with only one option, Hitler. A huge problem, which helped Hitler achieve power, was the Weimar republic, just in theory it was a useless system for a country at the time in history and its present inevitable economic situation. In the Weimar republic they used proportional representation which in turn means that every small party had power in proportion to their support by the public, which in theory sounds great but in reality it means that it is a lot harder to get any laws past and when a country is in as bad a state as it was at the time in Germany a priority should be to get laws passed which might help it sort itself out which it couldn! t do. Another problem of the Weimar republic is that it gave the president ridiculously large amounts of power, to rule by decree. The above points made it hard for anyone to help Germany while still following the rules set down by the republic originally.

The Reichstag fire in my opinion was just a lucky event, which turned out to come up as a good propaganda for the Nazis. The nazi didn! t need to use such extreme measures for support as they were already a hugely popular party, a lot more popular then the communist party of which one of their members (Marinus Van Der Lubber) started the blaze. In my opinion the communists did need to resort to such low methods for any chance of power because they were loosing the battle for power and the inevitable would happen to them when Hitler got power, their destruction. The economic crises in Germany had caused so much chaos and no one could see a way out of the rut they had got themselves into. None of the other chancellors before Hitler had the nerve to do such large scale work programs as Hitler implemented when he eventually got into power.
In this way Hitler did solve Germanys problems but unfortunately as it turned out he happened to get them into some other trouble. These are the reasons that the populous allowed the enabling laws to be introduced, those who did see their rightful value in the solution of Germanys depression. But upon the introduction of the enabling law Hitler also used the enabling law to promote his other ideas and continue the re-education of Germanys population after the mess of the stressmen years and then the rest of Hindenburg cronies. It wasn! t even like the enabling laws needed to keep such a high level of popularity in the public because 2/3 of the population were already behind the nazis and Hitler. So Hitler used the enabling laws to make sure that this new burst of life under his reign was kept so he removed the state systems so the country could be governed centrally avoiding unnecessary levels of bureaucracy. He removed the other parties and trade unions because they were all communists or at least in league with them, in the large majority of cases.

In conclusion the nazis didn! t seize power but instead used the laws to their own advantage to reach their aims which were needed for the country to prosper and all they did was use the laws to their own advantage like any other intelligent person would in their situation, possibly showing something about communists and their beliefs? But the worst thing of all is if you look at the Weimar system intelligently you will realise that the communists were the Nazis only alternative realistically.
