Communication: LOVE VIOLENCE ANGER
From writing letters, to calling people on telephones, to sending emails, to texting people, and now typing something on a social network, communication has changed greatly. Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card shows us how children, teenagers, and adults communicate with each other when there isn’t a lot of friendliness going around. Everyone communicates in a different way, some people through violence, love, or anger, some people choose not to communicate at all. It just depends on the person.
Mankind has made contact with an alien race known as “buggers”. The buggers have attempted to invade earth twice having been beaten the second time by a man named Mazer Rackham. The threat of the third invasion looms over the earth. The worlds most talented children, including the extraordinary Ender Wiggin, are taken into battle School at a very young age. To become commanders for the expected Third Invasion. Ender is claimed to be the new Mazer Rackham the one to destroy the bugger forever.
Ender has two siblings Peter and Valentine. Peter is violent and aggressive, Valentine is loving and kind. Ender is the mix between both his brother and sister. The International Fleet(I.F.) thought that Peter was to aggressive but Valentine was to passive. So they made Ender he has both his brother and sisters characteristics. The way Peter communicates with Ender is through violence, Valentine communicates with him by showing him love and affection. It is very clear that Peter dislikes his brother and sister yet, Ender despite all the bad things Peter has done to Ender, he still wants Peter to love him. He wants Peter to communicate with him the way Valentine does. A fact that Ender comes to realize is he never will. Valentine on the other hand has always communicated with him in a nice way showing him love telling him that he is not like Peter.

“ ‘I could kill you like this’ Peter said ‘ just press and press until you’re dead. And I could say I didn’t know it would hurt you, that we were just playing, and they’d believe me’… I’ll tell,’ said Valentine from the door way… ‘Then you’re dead too sweat little sister’ said Peter” (pg. 12, Orson Scott Card).
Valentine is the only one who stood up for Ender no matter how scary Peter got Ender always knew that Valentine loved him.
People at the Battle School communicated in a very different way. They play differently, they joke differently they even talk differently. They talk in way that’s almost like they have forgotten how to speak normally its all just slang. The boys at the Battle School are extremely competitive, the Battles and games have become there life. It all about how high you rank in battles, how far you are in certain games. Ender constantly plays this mind game on his computer. The game is virtually impossible to beat and Ender beat it by killing this giant holding two glasses one had poison in it if drank the right one you got into fairyland. Every time Ender tried one he would always lose. Then he tried tipping over both glasses and killing the giant. Sure enough he got to fairyland where he went into a castle and in a mirror saw Peter. He immediately freaked out and shut off the computer. Ender did not want to be like Peter he did not want to communicate through violence. It made him sad that in order to win he had to kill a living thing.
In the end Ender ended up being tricked into killing the buggers. He hated the Battle School and the people in it because of the way they communicated with him and each other. Peter was in control of earth and Valentine told Ender not to go back. She was going on the first colonization ship to the bugger worlds and wanted Ender to come along—he is to be governor of the first colony if he agrees. Ender did not want to populate worlds whose owners he killed. Valentine sees that he thinks she is trying to manipulate him and tells him that no one has a free life to live, so the least he can do is choose a path put forth by one who loves him. Ender decides to go, but tells her that the reason is to try to repay the buggers by learning about their past. The buggers did not know that humans could even think. If they had known that they would have never tried to defeat them. The bugger communicated through there minds, they had a much better understanding of each other they got to know each other they communicated well with each other. If the bugger didn’t understand each other then there world would be just like earth.
