English literature. Beowulf It is common knowledge, that at all times exist a set of values and codes, which serve like moral or perhaps social laws for the people. Reading an epic about Beowulf, one is to be absorbed by the vividness of the subject, the brightness of the descriptions of some deeds of the main character and, the more important, by describing the thoughts, the actions and even the verbal situations, which show us the level of culture and the values the heroes had. So, who was Beowulf, a person we are going to talk about? He was a son of a glorious father, who had a good fame among a lot of people. Beowulf himself was a great Scandinavian hero, a warrior and a chief of warriors, a person, famous for many glorious deeds. The depictions of the deeds of Beowulf show, that he is full of power and courage. His aim is not only defeat an enemy.
He come to help other lands just because they need it to return to a joyful life and prosperity but cant do that because of somebody might, who make evil. He understands, that in this way, in the way of defeating somebody evil and mighty, hell help and save the lives of many people. Finally, to protect these people from fear. Sometimes one can make up his mind, that thin hero was born to win. But, probably, he really was. Beowulf sometimes was described as a strongest and noble person who lived in the world in that time. In his battles, or sometimes even single combats Beowulf respect his opponent and is correct in his thoughts about him and about the battle.
The Essay on Beowulf The Ultimate Hero
Beowulf: The Ultimate Hero A hero is one who places himself or herself at risk for another by performing great deeds of courage. Often in our society today, athletes are looked up to as hero's. Brett Favre is an excellent example of a modern day hero. He is looked up to by many for his strength, leadership, and success. While on the football field, he is willing to risk his 'life' by running the ...
He understands perfectly that during every battle he may be taken by the death and he relies on God, telling that such things only God is to decide. It is worth to be talk about, that the Beowulfs speeches are very impressive. Frequently they are full of wisdom or just full of sincerity, but, however, these speeches are one of the main things, because of which we may judge of his aims, dispositions, mood and of course the values he has in his heart. And it is possible to make a conclusion, that his thoughts are managed by wisdom and his actions are full of wish to change the life in the better way and of courage. What do we have today? Such qualities as wisdom, courage and justice always must be present in our life and, especially, the world we live in today. But, talking about the contemporary heroes, the first thing which one can often say is a famous boxer, for example.
It could be Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson or somebody else, who are considered to be called as heroes, because they brought a fame to they country with their deeds in a sport sphere. Yes, perhaps in nowadays world such people are worth calling heroes. But comparing our contemporary heroes with that from the 6th century one can notice, that many interesting facts are turning out. Certainly, it is possible to find similar and different things and features in them. For example, both of them have a physical strength. But another thing is how do each of them use this strength.
If Beowulf use it for struggling with evil and for defeating mighty beings, our contemporary heroes use their physical strength in order to win a duel, to bring a fame to the country, to earn a fabulous sum of money etc. The main thing is that they dont make something very useful or important for somebodys life with their fights. This is one of the main differences. Another thing is the level of culture and a system of moral values of the heroes we are talking about and being compare. Of course, we dont know about a real behaviour and speeches of some heroes of the Old times, but judging from the literature we can think they were more or less noble. Today, some heroes even cant talk beautifully.
One more fact, is that such heroes as Beowulf had to use some strategy in their fights, especially if it was a significant fight with a great number of warriors who participated in it. And the boxers, mostly, have their special polished grips and positions. Generally, the times are changing and the values of the some people and sometimes of the people in general are changing too. Perhaps this opinion is a little bit sharp, but it is a well-known fact, that every opinion has a piece of true. And, of course, nobody of people will call a person like a hero for no particular reason. They are called heroes, first of all, because they made a good thing for their country they made it famous and let the people be proud for that. So do the heroes.
