On November 20, 2003 Enterprise Rent-A-Car Company gave a presentation in the Bernhard Center in Rm. 208 to students at Western Michigan University to increase the minority participation in their management incentive program. Enterprise has a well-developed management-training program that teaches employees how to run their own businesses, and joining a management team at an Enterprise branch is the start of a clearly defined career path. The management trainees work directly with customers, addressing their needs and learning how to build a business. They explained that commitment to promoting from within has taken hundreds of employees from the rental branch offices to the highest levels of operating management. Usually, every Enterprise operating manager’s career begins working at the branch, growing his or her own local operation one customer at a time.
Promotion to manager typically happens within three years, which brings an opportunity to lead a team, manage millions in assets and assume authority for a branch, including profit / loss responsibility. Enterprise focuses on thriving to provide employees with a sense of ownership, encouragement to an entrepreneurial spirit, and supporting it all with extensive training. While the rental business provides enormous opportunities, they also provide other rewarding career paths through Fleet Services, Car Sales and Rent-A-Truck divisions, as well as in support functions such as accounting, information systems, human resources and more. I am happy overall that I attended this orientation. I have heard about the management training program a lot through friends, but none of which who actually received a position. It was rumored that Enterprise Rent-A-Car never accepted minority applicants and this program helped people gain reassurance they too may have a job with Enterprise despite your ethic background..
