January 20, 2002 I believe that I should be considered for a PROJECT EPIC SCHOLARSHIP because this would be a great experience for me. I’m not a hundred percent sure if college is for me. No one in my family has gone to college so it would be great for me to be the first person to go. I could then become a good role model for my three younger sisters.
This would also provide me with a better life. My life has been a series of ups and downs. My biological father died when I was five. Then about three years ago my stepfather which, that I had accepted as my own, deserted my mother. My family went from a four-bedroom house to a two-bedroom apartment in the “ghetto” part of town.
Now every day is a struggle. My mom can only work a part time job because she has to be around to care for my asthmatic sisters. I work thirty hours a week to help my mom with the bills. Without some form of scholarship, attending college will be an almost insurmountable task; however, I have dealt with adversity throughout my life. I would like an easier road to take once in my life. I believe I should be chosen for the program because it will provide opportunities I would not be able to afford own my own.
I know if I could get away from my ties I can truly excel. It would be a great honor to receive the PROJECT EPIC SCHOLARSHIP.
