Many years have passed since the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States were adopted; but looking back more than hundreds years ago Americans constantly think on brief assertion in them: all men are created equal, and all the time they want to understand what they mean. The ideas of equality have their origin in Thomas Jeffersons claim that all men are equal. Obviously, he meant that people are all equal in the eyes of our creator. After the Civil War millions of formerly enslaved African- Americans wanted to be full and equal citizens of the large society. Some white Americans approved it; others tried to do everything to divide Whites from Colors.
By 1900 some laws were made according to which Americans of color were regarded as second -class citizenship. In Topeka, Kansas, there was a black girl named Linda Brown who had to go to black elementary school that was far from her house. Though there was a school for whites not far from her house. Her father, Oliver Brown, wanted her to go to the white school but the administration of the school refused. Then Lindas father asked the national Association for the Advancement of Colored People for help. Only the fearless efforts of lawyers, community activists, parents and students helped Brown to reach the Supreme Court and abolish constitutional sanction for segregation by race. African Americans got freedom.
