Euthanasia along with cloning and abortion is one of most controversial topics these days. Discussion about this subject started along with attempts to legalize euthanasia in some European countries. This idea has as many supporters as enemies. People who are against are usually basing only on religion beliefs without any effort to understand it thoroughly. In my opinion, euthanasia should be legalized, and people should be able to end their lives when pain and suffering left no other options.
However some people say that death isn’t only solution, but when one is lying in his or hers bed for months, suffering from terminal disease, in stage when even strongest painkillers cannot give even slightest relief from 24 ours agony, what other option is left? At this point decision of using euthanasia, or legal suicide as some people call it, appears to be the only way, what’s more only humanitarian way. For me it is a very good excuse for such a step to take. There is also a question if committing a suicide is a death with dignity. It is hard to say from moral point of view.
Euthanasia is nothing more like escaping from pain into, some may say, easier solution – death. Some people claiming it is an acting of a coward. In my opinion they should not say or think like that. This sort of decision demands a great amount of courage, and people should be allowed to do what in their opinion is right no matter if we think that they are cowards or not. We are not in position to judge them. There also is other point for euthanasia.

If it is legalized it can be conducted in hospital by doctors in professional way, without giving patient additional suffering. Now, when it is illegal and those people are eager to die, they will. Perhaps they overdose drugs or pills, maybe cut their veins, give themselves lethal injection or do something like that. This is not a death with dignity… Of course, we have to take into consideration people who will use euthanasia as a justification to commit suicide. In that aspect, it has no sense.
To conclude, euthanasia is equal to suicide because in both ways it ends with the same effect. However, people are free and should be allowed to do whatever they want with their lives, even when they want to end it sooner. We all have moral criteria that say us whether something is good or wrong, nevertheless we also have different points of view on cases of life and death. It is we, not anyone else, who know what is good or bad for us, so euthanasia should be our personal decision.
