When Richard Rich stated that “Every man has his price” this drew my attention to how some people involve themselves in improper and usually unlawful acts with intentions to gain various benefits for themselves or another. These acts of dishonesty or fraudulent behaviors can simply be referred to as corruption. Corruption is the act of dishonesty or fraudulent conduct by those in power, which includes many activities such as bribery and embezzlement. Government, or ‘political’, corruption occurs when an office-holder or other governmental employee acts in an official capacity for personal gain.
A majority of people in the world today are corrupt. Corruption is such a part of everyday life that it is now become a norm. It can be seen in our schools, the police, the armed forces, the government and our places of occupation. For example, a police officer believes the only way to survive is by accepting bribes. It is a problem with which most of the world is still struggling, developed countries included. Unfortunately it seems as though corruption is quite prevalent in our society but this does not have to be the case.
Richard Rich famously said “ Everyman has his price. ” Although he may have thought he was correct in saying this I have to strongly disagree. Corruption does not have to be the norm. The notion that every man has a price implies that all people are selfish and that man’s only goal is to benefit himself. However through our history we have seen that many people have made selfless sacrifices to ensure that corruption is rebuked for what it is. There are several Tibetan monks who set themselves on fire just to draw attention to corruption and deceit.
The Term Paper on Lord Your God People Kill Men
Murder in the Bible The act of murder is rampant in the Bible. In much of the Bible, especially the Old Testament, there are laws that command that people be killed for absurd reasons such as working on the Sabbath, being gay, cursing your parents, or not being a virgin on your wedding night. In addition to these crazy and immoral laws, there are plenty of examples of God's irrationality by his ...
Although this is admirable we do not have to allow any situation to get so far that the only resolution is the ultimate sacrifice. On the other hand, there are also corrupted leaders in this world. Former president of Indonesia, Mohamed Suharto embezzled the funds of $15-35 Billion and former president of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos embezzled $5-15 Billion. It takes only one person to stand up against what is wrong and more will follow. I believe very strongly in this and I am willing to be that one person, shall the need ever arise. Corruption is not okay and I certainly do not have a “price”.
