Domestic Violence is violence or physical abuse which is directed towards your spouse or domestic partner. There are many different patterns and reasons which means that domestic violence occurs.
The main pattern that occurs within domestic violence is gender. Women are usually the victims of domestic violence; and it is usually men that commit the violence. The main reason that women are more likely to be victims is because their husband thinks that they are challenging their authority by asking ‘why were you late?’ Russell and Rebecca Dobash confirm this, based on police and court records and interviews with women in women’s refuses. The radical feminist explanation suggests that within a family, men dominate women through either domestic violence or threat of it. They argue that domestic violence against women is part of patriarchal system that maintains men’s power over women. However many men don’t report being abused as they can be seen as weak as their partner has dominance over them. This can show that the statistics aren’t 100% reliable as not all cases are being reported. The main victim of domestic violence is women and 99% of all incidents are committed by men, against women.
The Essay on Women And Men Communicate Differently
Women and Men Communicate Differently The process of neo-Liberal dogmas, such as celebration of diversity and elimination of sexism, being showed up peoples throats, brought about a situation, when employment policies correspond less and less to the objective reality of interaction between genders at workplace. Men and women are expected to execute their professional duties with the same ...
There are also other patterns within domestic violence these include, children and young people, people that are in the lowest of social classes, those who live in rented accommodation, those on the low incomes or in financial difficulties, those who have high levels of alcohol assumption and use of illegal drugs. Some of these groups overlap, statistics show that young people and children that are from a low social class are at higher risk of domestic violence and abuse. Richard Wilkinson offers a reason for these patterns; he sees domestic violence as a result of stress.
However there are many things which show that they can never get 100% accurate results. The official statistics show that there are two main problems. Firstly, many victims may not report it to the police, as it may be a one off, and many don’t report being abused until they have had 35 assaults, on average. Domestic violence is one of the crimes that is least likely to be reported. Secondly, police may be reluctant to record, investigate and prosecute the people for the cases that have been reported against them. This is because the police don’t want to become involved within a family. There are three main reason for this;
• They believe that the family is private, and if they become involved in the family they wouldn’t be able to get the true story, and would only get limited information.
• The state agencies also believe that family is a good thing and so agencies tend to neglect and try to ‘forget’ about the ‘darker side’ of family life.
• The agencies also believe that individuals are free agents, and if this is the case then the women that is experiencing the abuse is free to leave the abuse that they are experiencing.
However this isn’t always the as case, as often the women is usually financially dependent on the male, and therefore hasn’t got an option but to stay within the family.
In conclusion, there are many patterns within domestic violence; the main one being gender, as women are the main victims of domestic violence. With the reason being that man think that women are challenging their authority. The patterns that can be seen within domestic violence have a reason for each of these; for example, those that have low incomes or financial difficulties have high stress levels and release that stress by abusing someone.
