Riordan Manufacturing (Riordan) Inc. is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding with state-of-the art design capabilities to create innovative plastic designs earning the company international acclaim. Attention to detail, extreme precision, and enthusiastic quality control are the hallmarks of Riordan Manufacturing (Riordan, 2005).
Riordan has requested an audit with the results to be presented in an extensive report containing recommendations on how to increase efficiency in their inventory control process.
Efficiency Implementation Proposal
The areas affected by the implementation proposal are shipping, receiving, and the documentation of inventory. The lack of a technologically advanced network to track inventory throughout the receiving, manufacturing and distribution process will also be addressed. We recommend a new technology based system be implemented which will be cost effective and productive to the company. This new technology will improve time management and productivity and reduce paperwork, stress and redundancy.
In order to increase efficiency a detailed analysis using the SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) was conducted and the following course of action is being recommended (Reynolds, Stair, 2003):
System Analysis: Update the current flow process for the receipt and processing of inventory to reduce unnecessary and redundant steps.
Design: Implement new technology to track inventory throughout the receipt and manufacturing process.

Implementation: Re-train employees to use new technology effectively and to maintain accuracy.
Maintenance: Create audit procedures to regulate the adherence of established procedures.
The implementation and maintenance of these new procedures and technologies will provide a definite cost benefit to the company. The company will also benefit from increased productivity and higher employee morale. Also, the company’s bottom line will benefit generously from increased profits.
Business Requirements for Riordan Manufacturing Service Request
The recommended use of the System Development Life Cycle process (SDLC) has been made to propose and design a new inventory management process to meet the service request requirements of Riordan Manufacturing.
Installation
Business Need: Install new technology based system for inventory management with minimal impact to current operations. All new systems are to be constructed and installed in current Riordan facilities.
Hardware / Software
Develop and contract an efficient and low cost method to construct and install the new hardware and software including any structural changes that have to be made to existing facilities.
Training & Maintenance
Create and schedule a comprehensive training program to introduce and educate employees on the new policies and procedures being put into place.
Adaptability
All systems proposed for implementation must have some element of adaptability or compatibility. This feature ensures accuracy of information transfer and storage. As information systems are implemented for use a parallel system is in place to ensure that all compatibility is enforced without complications.
Upgrade
Technology is notorious for the consistent change in the versions of the software and hardware. Keeping this is in mind most companies will plan for future upgrades.

Inventory control process – Riordan Manufacturing
In conclusion, implementing new technology to increase the efficiency of Riordan’s inventory control process will improve time management, productivity, paperwork, stress, and redundancy. The stakeholders benefiting from this proposal would be the company’s management, employees, customers, and both vendors and suppliers. The improvement to Riordan’s inventory process will be implemented following the SDLC process.
