How dangerous are some of your driving habits? Although most people believe that they are good drivers, they might not realize some of the dangerous driving habits that they practice. The most dangerous driving habits that I have observed are drinking and driving, street racing, stunt riding on a motorcycle, and texting while driving. Some of these habits might be ones that you’re guilty of. If you can avoid these habits, you’ll be a lot safer on the roads for yourself and others. First, drinking and driving is a habit that can easily end in tragedy.
Your vision may be blurred along with a slower reaction time. A drunk driver on the Clark Bridge hit a motorcyclist, and killed him and left his wife seriously injured. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident on foot, but was chased down by witnesses and detained until police arrived. Another example of why drinking and driving is dangerous is when a friend of mine fell asleep at the wheel while he was intoxicated and hit a parked car that deflected his car into an apartment complex. The spot where he hit the apartments was right where the gas lines were.
Emergency responders said that he was lucky that it didn’t explode and kill him or others living in the complex. A little less dangerous than drinking and driving, street racing is highly dangerous due to high rates of speed. When racing at a high rate of speed, drivers have less control of their vehicles. Innocent bystanders or even the driver can be seriously injured or even killed. Because of all the accidents, police are cracking down on Hall Street, which is a popular place for street racing on Sunday nights.
The Term Paper on Street Racing Cars Racers Car
Street racing is an illegal sport that is growing popular at an alarming rate. Street racing is the concept of high performance automobiles racing on public roadways illegally. Individuals will take a basic car and tune it up to be very quick and very powerful. The idea of street racing originates from the legal sport of drag racing. Drag racing is an internationally recognized sport governed by ...
I have even raced cars on my motorcycle at speeds of 150+mph. While racing a friend of mine on Interstate 255, a car switched lanes the same time as I did, leaving me with the options of locking up the brakes and laying it down or splitting the two cars hoping for the best. I chose to split the two cars and was fortunate enough to make it but it could have ended a lot worse. After street racing, stunt riding on a motorcycle may look cool, but it can easily end in death. I can admit that I am guilty of this act of stunt riding.
You may think you have total control of your motorcycle, but all it takes is a sudden gust of wind or a rock to make it disastrous. It is very easy to give it too much throttle while riding a wheelie and you could fall off the back of the bike leaving yourself seriously injured. There are no seatbelts or surrounding frame like you have on a car, which easily exposes you to injury in an accident. The Street Fighterz of St. Louis host the Ride of the Century every year where hundreds of bikers attend to show off their skills as stunt riders.
One rider was killed this past year because he was side swiped by a car while riding a wheelie. This could have possibly been avoided had he not been in a wheelie and operating the motorcycle on both wheels. Finally, texting on your phone while driving takes your focus off the road ahead. If there were to be an accident in front of you, there is less chance of you avoiding the accident or possibly making it worse. A child could run out in front of you and because you wanted to send a text or take a phone call, it could possibly cost their life.
There have been several times where I’ve been driving behind someone or next to them while they’re texting and they swerve back and forth. They could very easily side swipe someone by coming into their lane causing a major accident. I know some people that keep their phone out of reach so it’s less tempting to be on it while they’re driving. There are commercials with incidents of real people that have died in car crashes because a simple text couldn’t wait.

Drivers should practice safety more often and pay attention to the road ahead. I’m sure there are many other dangerous driving habits that you have observed while out on the road but drinking and driving, street racing, stunt riding, and texting on your phone while driving are just some of the habits that I’ve noticed.
