My Visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art was an exciting experience; the surroundings area is a very well take care place. Following directions in the exhibition report by Mrs. Cervantes Y reina. I walked through the exhibition area for the first time. My impression was the admiration of every object, but a Carved Vessel on the Mesoamerica section, captured my attention.
On my second walked I really admired some other art pieces, except for the Carved Vessel that continued to intrigued me, I know that, this would be the piece that I would select to write about it. I would write about the information that applies to this particular piece of art. I will give my reaction over the execution and impression of this object. The conclusion of this paper is to point up that this piece of art placed at the Mesoamerica and West Mexico Mayan place, is a wonderful legacy from our ancestors. My impression; I really admired every single piece of art, as well as the exhibition in general.
I feel that human beings are full of skills, some of them developed more than others their skills, and that is how some of us become artists, teachers, architects, doctors, … and so on, no matter the time we are live on it, the cycle of life goes always around and around. Our indigenous ancestors were treated as savages or uncivilized people, for a different color and aspect people. While in reality they were genius, great artists, teachers, … and so on. Their architecture, art, and codices were destroy by barbarians that considered themselves civilize people.

The archeologists, the regular people (people with-out title), and time brings up the opportunity for all of us to no only admire, furthermore, to knowledge that our ancestors left us a wonderful treasure, from where we can learn about them and their societies, as well as their history. These archeologists had discovery: pyramids, sculptures, manuscripts, and other commodities. A lot of these art pieces; were stolen from their original places, some others were sold, the remaining pieces still talking about our ancestor’s culture. We can found these pieces at museums like the LAMCA in Los Angeles Ca. , Museo Nacional de Antropologia in Mexico city, also at private places, and in the different identities where they belong, such as The Aztecs pyramids that you can see them in Mexico, The Machu Pic hu in Peru, The Tikal (twin pyramids) in Guatemala…
and others. I was enchantment with my visit to the LAMCA and it’s exhibitions of not only the European art, but also the Mesoamerica and America’s art, where I found the piece of art that was required for this paper, the Carved Vessel a Mayan treasure. The information that applies to this particular piece of art that I chose was insufficient, and it’s understandable because it can not be a full description on the objects, otherwise will occupy more space than some of the objects, and it will take away the meaning and beauty of the pieces art. I did a research and I found, that the indigenous produces these kinds of Carved Vessels from clay that it’s a product of decomposition rocks that contain alumina a sedimentary deposit. The clay is different in each county or identity they could have granite, basalt, diorite, and tuff.
The decomposition of the rock that produces quartz, feldspar, mica, and pyrite that serves as temper for ceramic. The color depends upon amount and condition of the organic materials. The vessel construction, after the clay had the proper consistence, it was carefully kneaded to remove air bubbles and to make it as plastic as possible, allowing the potter to mold easily. These vessels were used to show royal visits, for religious matter, gifts of worship… and other issues. On the carved vessel that I chose the information said, that is a piece of art from Cho chola, Maya culture from Mexico.

Building date between 600-900 A. D. , is a ceramic object, it does not identify colors, however there is some kind of black color, as well as reddish color and it seems to be that comes from the original clay from what was make. The information on this vessel is engraved as the picture of two kings facing each other; the figure on the left is offering tribute of quetzal plumes to the enthroned king on the right. There is a third figure in the middle of both kings; he’s a servant, who’s holding a mirror facing the enthroned king. There are some hieroglyphics captions in front of the vessel identifying the names and titles of the participants.
The text on the back describes the vessel, as a thin-walled drinking vessel for tree-fresh cacao. From the time that early human beings began gathering food and fuel, vessels were constructed as tools. Vessels reveal a great deal about societies and values. A vessel holds liquid, grains, and blessings.
It is woven from twigs or grasses; it is crafted in clay, glass, wood, metal, and paper. The execution and expression of the carved vessel, seems to be a very professional work. Who ever did it no only was an expert, but she or he was a great artist. The engraved message is very descriptive because it shows what the vessel was made for; furthermore with this little piece of art they demonstrated their creativity and professionalism that they possessed. The design makes a formal way to express the artist feelings in the best way possible.
The eloquent forms of how they made these designs are excellent, having in mind that they do not had the new technology that we are using now. This people produce wonderful pieces of art with their own old technology (old but productive, because we learn from them).
Its not the usual engraved where the design looks like it was made in a hurry or by a child, no, not at all, this is like if the engraved was made with love and care, like when we want to do something especial and we put our best effort. When looking at a vessel form, contemporary or ancient, consider its function. The shape and the text let us know that it was made for put water or drink from it, at the same time it looks like those beautiful jars that decorate the table or the center table of our houses.
In a few words a beautiful piece of art that express by itself the meaning for what it was made for with the message imprinted all over the vessel. Just like a lot of our ancestors legacy designs that still stand up to be admire by us and the future generations. I feel respect and admiration for our ancestors and their legacy, at the same time, I feel sorrow for the people that still thinking, that the indigenous are people with no knowledge or education. On the contrary these indigenous people are educated, because they show respect to others for whatever they do, and their knowledge is totally different to the way we are been instruct. The indigenous knowledge is as important as the knowledge that a lot of us are receiving in the different educational institutes in our countries, because every single person is important, and is part of our system, at the same time is a human being with the same rights that all humans suppose to have. The human world always has been blessed with professional’s people on all areas and aspects.

That is why; this little portion of our ancestors (indigenous; professional’s, masters, artists, and… so on) treasure makes me express this way on their legacy of art, architecture, and other commodities made for them, not to compare cultures, furthermore to admire their skills, and respect each-others work. The information that reminds on all those wonderful pieces of art (pyramids, temples, murals, and other commodities) all over America, is the testimony of civilized, urbanized, and organized cultural society, that deserve the respect, and admiration of any generation. Particularly our generations that always feel, that we are the ones that can categorize, control, and decide what is good, and what is not good, no only on art, but also on every single line of work.
