There has been a plethora of different types of programming languages that has been created through history for various reasons. ADA for example was one of the earlier languages and was primarily used for the department of defense. ADA was named after Countess Ada Lovelace for being an influential and historical figure in the field of computing. BASIC is another one of the earlier programming languages that was also designed in the early 1960s along with ADA.
BASIC ( beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) was made for its simplicity to allow beginner users to learn and use. FORTRAN (FORmula TRANslator) was the first high level programming language designed and was created in the 1950s. FORTRAN is designed to perform complex mathematical calculations. COBOL (Common Business-Oriented Language) was made in the 1950s and was made for business applications. Pascal, created in the 1970s, was designed to teach programming and was named based off of the mathematician, physicist, and philosopher Blaise Pascal.
C was created in 1972 and C++ was created in 1983 and they are both powerful, general-purpose programming language made at Bell Laboratories. C# (C sharp) was made by Microsoft around the year 2000 for developing applications based on the Microsoft . NET platform. Visual Basic (VB) is also made by Microsoft in 1990s and its main purpose was to make a software development environment that allows programmers to create Windows based applications quickly.
