Choosing the right university to attend that’s a right fit for a student can be a very challenging task. There are so many universities to choose from and they all have a similar claim of being able to offer students the best education. Therefore when choosing a university, it is important to examine the school’s culture, admissions process, programs offered as well as the philosophy that is endorsed by the school. FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON UNIVERSITY Fairleigh Dickinson University is a private university located in Madison New Jersey. FDU has four locations total; two campuses are located in New Jersey, one is in Canada and one is in London.
FDU has been in existence for over 60 years now and has over 10,000 students from all over the world (Fairleigh, 2008).
FDU degree programs include Associates, Bachelors, Master’s and doctoral degree programs in psychology (Fairleigh, 2008).
Fairleigh Dickinson University also offers its students combined Bachelors and Master’s degree programs that allow students to receive both in about five years time (Fairleigh, 2008).
At Fairleigh Dickinson University, the ideology is that a college education must train students for a life span of thoughtful living.

Fairleigh Dickinson University was honored by The American Association of Colleges and Universities by declaring FDU to be one of nine programs in the United States to serve as a primary example for other educational institutions (Fairleigh, 2008).
FDU considers accepting students for admission based on a student’s ability to effectively assume both professional training and a liberal arts curriculum (Fairleigh, 2008).
Fairleigh has a great team of admissions counselors to assist both domestic and international students with whatever concerns that they may have (Fairleigh, 2008).
In order to be considered for admission at FDU, first-time students must submit a completed application. There is also a $40. 00 nonrefundable application fee requirement. Prospective students must also submit their SAT or ACT scores and an official copy of their high school transcript (Fairleigh, 2008).
Personal interviews are generally not a requisite of the admissions process (Fairleigh, 2008).
However, FDU reserves the right to request for an interview if necessary (Fairleigh, 2008).

Fairleigh University’s international studies program trains student’s via an extensive range of professional endeavors to produce world citizenship through diverse cultural, social and academic experiences (Fairleigh, 2008).
The literacy, extensive knowledge, economic groundwork and communication skills that international studies majors achieve in the International Studies program lead to thriving careers in government, banking, publishing, law, international business and education. The FDU International Studies program was designed considering the importance of emphasizing global problems, peace and conflict resolution (Fairleigh, 2008).
CONCLUSION Fairleigh Dickinson University has a very good admissions program. They have adequately separated the domestic and international admissions process so that students can receive the proper information according to their domestic or international concerns and queries. Like most private schools, FDU’s admissions requirements seem reasonable and are comparable to other private institutions. In addition, FDU’s International Studies program appears to be an excellent program; the fact that the program is established with an emphasis on global problems, peace and conflict resolution is an indication that it is a good and thorough program.
