Faith in Humanity
Its seems as if the human perception of what faith in humanity is has changed drastically over the years. Throughout our world, events occur daily that make us wonder if our faith in humanity is still strong. I feel that places like Juarez, Mexico can really make you question your faith in humanity. Brutal attacks and terrible crimes seem to be a constant in Juarez, it is said to be the most violent city in the world. It definitely makes me question my personal faith in humanity. Faith in humanity is the notion that society will constantly evolve and prosper into something higher or better through its people.
Moreover, Gerda Weissmann Klein had faith in humankind. Though she struggled through work camps and indifferent Nazis for years she was still able to pull through and tell her story and become something higher. At the end of page 177, Gerda states that she held in her heart the picture of her homecoming. This was in the midst of the brutal Grunberg, the place where many people’s stories of survival would come to a tragic end. To be able to believe something like that with brutality swarming all around you is amazing. An average person would have just crawled into a little ball and set their death date at Auschwitz. At the war’s near end on page 198, Gerda states that the Germans are retreating and will not kill her now. It is simply crazy for her to believe this after all the grief that these beings have caused her, it is a pure example of Gerda Weissmann Klein having faith in humanity which is what truly kept her alive.

Essentially, faith in humanity is something that many people have lost over the years. I personally do not have faith in humanity. This is because I know what humans have done at places like Auschwitz and I am still aware of what they are capable of doing. Many people believe that something as terrible as the Holocaust could never be present again, but I know otherwise. Terrible things occur daily, and the Holocaust was just a mass organization of those terrible things. To have faith in humanity is special nowadays considering all the cruel people in this world and their negative capabilities. For example, Usama Bin Ladin can be the reason somebody loses their faith in humanity. He is one who once organized cruelty, which is when it became terror and horror. My faith in humanity can never be recovered due to the fact that humans will not change their ways in the time coming, human cruelty will always be present within us all. We can not evolve into something higher when misplaced hatred is causing us to be killed or discriminated against, and evolving into something higher is what faith in humanity is all about.
In the long run, there are many ways to put faith in humanity into action. You can take time out of your day do smile and do positive things such as picking up litter or even encouraging people to not litter. You can always participate in fundraisers for a local hospital perhaps. Being part of something bigger or just striving to become a better person works toward the cause. If one day all people realized the importance of a healthy and balanced lifestyle than society would run smoothly and there would be a sure shot of a decrease in violence. For me personally, I can make a difference just by being part of something bigger like honor society which is all about working to better the community. In honor society, we set aside time to jubilate in the lives of the less fortunate. This is very important as underprivileged people need to feel like they can make a difference and work towards the whole idea of faith in humanity as well.
Faith in humanity is the notion that society will constantly evolve and prosper into something higher or better through its people. Gerda Weissmann Klein had faith in humanity. Though her efforts have almost restored my faith in humanity, it is still currently absent. To put faith in humanity into action, I can always do something that is plausible and positive. Faith in humanity is still hard to obtain but it is what keeps this world going.
