There are several instances in this film, where the interpersonal communication between husband and wife are handled ineffectively. There is no conversation between the two in the movie which caused a communicational barrier. According to Sole, Conversations are the means through which you share facts and information as well as your ideas, thoughts, and feelings with other people (Sole, 2011).
In one particular scene, the mother decided to buy their daughter some clothing that were two sizes too small.
Instead, of the husband addressing the issue about his wife’s insensitivity he allowed the child to endure unnecessary criticism about her weight. The husband throughout the movie is caught conversing with one’s self, even at one point with the maid. However, he never voiced or stated his opinions to his wife, causing the conflict to overpower the love of one’s home and allowing the children to foresee a divorce. The mother’s happiness plays a big part in the communication barrier, especially when you’re finding happiness outside your home.
The mother becomes self- involved when she engages into this relationship with another guy, therefore causing their communicational barrier to drift even further apart. After reviewing and stating the communicational barriers, there were some simple things that could have been done differently. Both parties had their issues. Neither of them really knew how to communicate to the other, about what they were feeling. Instead of the husband confiding in the maid, he should have took the opportunity to talk out his issues with his wife.

Instead of the wife looking outside of her home for love, excitement, and companionship, she should have expressed her feelings to her husband and spent more time with her family. After the possibility of their issues not being resolved, they should have sought counseling. The maid was a constant factor that caused a bridge between the wife and the family. The maid’s motherly morale could have been a positive influence on the wife’s way of parenting if only given an opportunity in the movie.
As far as the husband is concerned, instead of trying to form a relationship with the maid, he should have taken the time to identify the reason for his wife’s actions. There are many things that could have been done in an effort to avoid family destruction. Does family depends on the bond of husband and wife? The answer is yes it does. Whenever there is conflict there is turmoil and where there is turmoil in any home there is someone suffering the consequences. In this case, it was the innocent children suffering the backlash of their parents’ inability to communicate with one another.
After watching the movie, it has given helpful guidelines for effective communication. It really demonstrates the essence of what could happen if issues are never addressed. For a marriage to be successful or for any relationship to be successful, communication plays a key factor. You cannot just sweep issues under the rug and expect for them to go away on their own.
