Famine, a severe shortage of food, generally affecting a wide spread area and large numbers of people. Famine is a very serious topic, especially in the regions of Ethiopia. The deaths are due not only to starvation, but also the diminished ability to fight infection. When looking at famine in general there are not very many exceptionally great things to consider, but organizations world wide are fighting to put an end to world In the 20th century the Sale region of Africa has been struck by famine several times, North and South America have been relatively free of large scale famines. Europe has only suffered occasionally although during World War I hundreds of thousands died from starvation, and the situation in Ethiopia is no different. More than five million people are facing an increasing threat of famine everyday due to a severe drought devastating most crops across Ethiopia.
The situation is being made worse by the war between Ethiopia and its neighboring country of Eritre, which has continued over the last sixteen months. With all the international attention focused on the war, Ethiopia is still waiting for much of the aid to arrive. The Ethiopian government said that even for months to come there was no firm promises of food aid. The government says the drought and the war are to completely separate issues, but I think that some countries may be wary about providing help to Ethiopia while it continues to spend one million a day on the war. Driven by starvation, people in Ethiopia are eating wild foods such as bark, leaves and grasses in desperation to survive the famine that is presently sweeping their country. Around 4 million people in some regions of Ethiopia are suffering from malnourishment. 600,000 children are malnourished of which there are 60,000 are severely malnourished and in need of urgent medical attention.

Most people there only receive 100-150 grams of food a day. Thousands of people in Ethiopia are still haunted by the memory of the devastating 1984 famine and it seems as though that many of the same people are once again fleeing their homes in distress. Then due to an unexpected short rain season and a failure of the harvest, there is an impending food crisis. Distress migration is already starting from the worst hit areas. During this we all go without food for thirty hours, but before we even start the actual famine we go out and find sponsors. They then pay a certain amount of money per hour that we dont eat. This way we make larger amounts of money. Then we combine the money and send it to the corporation its self where the money is equal split between the countries that we choose as the countries with the greatest economic needs. Another part of the experience is that we all get together and also collect food for the community homeless shelter. We also all sleep in cardboard boxes that we must construct ourselves and sleep outside.
This gives us the effect of what it would be like to live in a country where they have not enough adequate supplies to live a customary life. In conclusion I would like to say that although many people think that because famine in another country is none of our business to help, I believe that if there is suffering in the world at all that anyone can do anything about, then it should be done.
