Fascism The socio-political phenomenon of Fascism cannot be properly assessed, if taken out of context. Therefore, it is very important for us to understand that this political movement came as the reaction of European people to the threat of Communism. Soviet Union was being formed in 1917 and immediately, after becoming the subject of international politics, it openly proclaimed its goal spreading the Communism all over the world. Right up to the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991, its Constitution openly stated that USSR only temporary consists of 15 republics and that this was only the matter of time, before the rest of worlds nations would become part of it. The Soviet coat of arms depicted hammer and sickle over the globe, which was supposed to indicate Communisms geopolitical aspirations. Therefore, it was only natural for the Europeans to look for some kind of spiritual vaccine, which would strengthen Western civilization, whose very existence was being threatened by the spiritual poison of Communism. Basically, the Fascism is the form of European traditionalism, which was specifically adapted to the realities of 20th century. When Mussolini took over the political power in Italy in 1921, he declared that only the reason for his party to temporary ban democracy in Italy was the fact that he wanted to strengthen his nation, in the wake of Communist peril.
Word Fascia literally translates from Italian as bundle. Mussolini was well aware that only when being united, Europeans had a chance of standing up against barbarian hordes from the East, just like it had happened before, throughout the history. It is not by mere accident that many European countries had adopted Fascism, after having experienced Communism at first hand, when Marxists were trying to ignite the fire of international war against capitalists throughout the Europe in 1918-1920. Therefore, Fascism can be thought of in terms of spiritual vaccine against Communism. Its historical significance lies in the fact that Fascism was able to mortally wound Communism, before it managed to spread over half of the Europe in 1945..
