There is blood in his urine, salvia and stool. The platelets in his blood decrease and the patient begins to bleed at different places in his body. The disease is no doubt curable but sometimes, due to lack of care and cure, the patient loses his life. The death rate is not very high but its dread is very alarming. The mosquito, carrying the Dengue virus breads on clear water, the flower pots, trees and plants and grass. These are its favourite places of birth and growth. It has become an epidemic in Punjab due to lack of proper attention and care on the part of Govt.
Punjab Govt. did not pay serious attention to its growth in time. It did not take adequate steps to spray anti-viral drugs at its breeding spots at initial stages. However, the Govt. worked very hard to control and over power it when it became an epidemic. It took the life of hundreds of people. Every day present ten to fifteen dead bodies which caused great grief, worry and concern to the people who considered them in constant danger. The arrangements for the treatment of the patient were inadequate because the patient outnumbered the hospitals.
Doctors worked with such devotion that it was due to their untiring efforts that the mortality rate among the patients was controlled. The Govt. used print and electronic media to produce awareness among the masses to control it. People were asked to spray anti-mosquito liquid in their homes, in their lawns, flower pots, water tanks and grassy places. They were directed not to keep clean water standing at any place. The old tyres containing water were removed from the shops. The school going children were advised to use shirts of full sleeves.
The school and colleges were cleaned and purified. The mosquito killing spray was carried in every school and college. It was highlighted through mass media that anti-mosquito lotion should be used on the skin by everyone. The victims of Dengue fever were directed to take light food and juices. Spicy and heavy diet, rich and bakery products should be avoided. The patients were advised to take full rest. They were forbidden to take antibiotic drugs. It was due to proper and careful treatment that most of the victims were cured.
