Despite switching majors from graphic design to film this year, I believe I have tried my hardest to learn as much as possible about film production through MIP II and DIP. During my freshman year, I was on three different sets lending a helping hand to my friends. This class has been a great refresher and I came in ready to learn what I didn’t know and review what I did know. So far I believe that I have done quite well in both of these classes, even if at times I’ve struggled with trusting my peers to help me with certain aspects of my projects.
I believe that the biggest strengths in my work as a student are that I’m very passionate about my field of work, and therefore will go great lengths to turn in quality projects. I hope to become an editor, so I always offered to edit even though last year I was a graphic design major. I fell in love with editing last year and being in foundations this year has confirmed that I made the right decision to switch. I also know that it is important to be a well-rounded person and due to this I’ve taken my assignments very seriously, even if they don’t have to do with editing.
Despite my passion to become a well-rounded filmmaker, that means nothing if I can’t get myself organized. Last year, I had a lot of trouble becoming more responsible and coming to every class. This year I have started very strong, working hard to keep up and take these classes seriously. In efforts to keep this habit, I’ve started marking things down on my planner and have found that its essential for me to do this in order to keep track of all the things I do. I have three other classes that I equally try hard in.

Besides the important matter of learning to balance my time more, I’ve found it quite easy to deal with the assignments themselves, it has just been a matter of assigning myself a time to put aside to work on them. As of now my general education classes and my film classes have not interfered with one another. I’ve been able to keep up with both and give the same amount of effort to both classes. I got lucky this semester because I don’t have any midterms to worry about. My homage and documentaries were both a learning experience, but if I had to choose which one I thought turned out the best, it’d be the documentary.
My audio was a bit faulty for the homage and I had to cut a lot out of the storyline. It’s one of those projects that you want to learn from and then forget about. My documentary, while it wasn’t voted into Take one, was something I am very proud of. I plan on entering it into festivals if at all possible. Overall I feel that I’ve managed to plan things out successfully so far. Aside from missing a few classes, I have been in attendance and I have participated every time. I hope that this next year is as successful as this past one, and that I can keep up my good work ethic and tackle whatever comes ahead.
