Follow on Service Project In order to promote the Gilman Program and international education I will do a brochure about Barcelona and my life in this city and make a presentation of it. My brochure will advertise the advantages of international education. The audience of my brochure will be American students, in particular, students of University of Florida. My project will popularize the idea that education abroad (for instance in Spain) is very beneficial for our community since 1) it gives a profound knowledge of the foreign language (i.e. Spanish) and also 2) it provides with sufficient information about culture and history of this country. So, by means of the Gilman Program students of my University can learn Spanish, broaden their cultural outlook and perceive the world we live to a higher degree.
To my mind, the layer of student body in my University that needs my project most of all is that of freshman. Such students are newcomers in the University and they need our support to adapt to the new circumstances. By the concept of circumstances I imply accommodation, curriculum, the knowledge of traditions and history of our institution and the languages that are used by the stuff and the students. In fact, Spanish has been gaining popularity in Florida. This fact is emphasized by the importance of this language in outer world: today more than 330 million of people speak Spanish as their first language and, in addition, this language is considered to be the second world language of international communication. Thus, to get a good command of Spanish means not only to demonstrate the quality of ones education but also to overcome ones social and material obstacles and hardships.

As a growing number of international students who attempt to obtain a further education diploma or expand their horizons, has been increasing, it is often the case that they would face various challenges while studying abroad. In other words, Spanish, learnt in the frames of the Gilman Program, may be helpful for the students in the first year to join the local student community, to improve the quality of their education and to become good professionals in the future. In order to integrate the impact of my experience into my project I will use the following means. I will arrange the presentation of pictures of Barcelona and my life in Barcelona in my University. The themes of my pictures with touch the following: my activities, schooling, night life, food etc. This presentation will be supported by the samples of Spanish cuisine, music; examples of my Spanish lessons conducted either by one of the volunteers or by myself, books, which will illustrate the process of my schooling; tourist guides and leaflets. I may a draw the route of my sightseeing tour about European countries and present it as one of the beneficial opportunities given in the frames of the Gilman Program.
In sum, I think that my presentation will not only visualize my experience and my impressions of Barcelona but also involve my audience in them and make the students perceive my enthusiasm as their own. Naturally, in my promotion of the Gilman Program I will need some support and assistance of other student and community organizations. For this purpose I decided to collaborate with the Study Abroad office. I think that the volunteers from this organization will help me in advertising, promotion and presentation of my follow on service project. I have not contacted with the Study Abroad office, though I intend to do it very soon. After the completion of my project I will submit a two-page final report.
