Nowadays, there is a mistaken belief among teenagers that hazing is acceptable, they believe that it is an appropriate way of welcoming new students to schools, or punishing younger kids. Hazing is wrong a number of ways, students who are bullied do not feel welcome, they feel unwanted and unsafe. Most of the teenagers say it is a tradition to bully new, younger kids but they do not think how it could affect them. First of all, getting bullied lowers students self-esteem, makes them not want to attend school. A high level of bullying was consistently associated with lower grades across the three years of middle school. The students who were rated the most-bullied performed substantially worse academically than their peers. Projecting the findings on grade-point average across all three years of middle school, a one-point increase on the four-point bullying scale was associated with a 1.5-point decrease in GPA for one academic subject (math) – a very large drop. This article by Stuart Wolpert shows that students who get bullied have hard time to focus on their studies. They feel like they are in danger all the time but most importantly they become unhappy and even suicidal.
“According to statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying, and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of fear of bullying.” Generally, students who bully others were also bullied by older students when they were younger, that is the reason they do not feel like it is a big issue; because they had been hazed, they think they have right to haze others. Hazing, mocking, teasing, bullying may become very serious after a while, it should be stopped immediately. Bully usually start with little things such as mocking, teasing if it is not stopped right away, it may get bigger. Once bullies realize that the younger kids are afraid of them, they feel more powerful and the more powerful they become the worse the hazing gets. There is also another side of the story, bullies do not only turn other students lives into hell, most of the time they end up ruining their own lives.
The Research paper on Maritime Students Perception on School Related activities
School activities are very important for the students and for the school. For the students, because they gain new skills and motivation. It’s a real chance for them to enjoy school and choose to do something they are really interested and passionate about, and therefore their motivation for learning and their motivation for their teachers and the school increase. It makes them relate ...
Let’s look at an example, a few months ago, there was an accident at Nepean High School, a senior student, Mykal Baytaluk and his friends threw eggs at a younger student who was on a bicycle. The student lost his balance and Mykal hit him with his car by accident. Luckily, the kid was not injured, nothing happened to him but it could have. Mykal probably did not mean to hurt him, but that is what happens when you believe in hazing and do not know your limits. Mykal ended up being expelled, he basically ruined his own life. Every year, hundreds of students commit suicide because of this issue. “In some cases, it may not be obvious that a teen is thinking about suicide, such as when the suicide seems to be triggered by a particularly bad episode of bullying. In several cases where bullying victims killed themselves, bullies had told the teen that he or she should kill him or herself or that the world would be better without them. Others who hear these types of statements should be quick to stop them and explain to the victim that the bully is wrong.” My point is bullying in any way is unacceptable, no students should have to go through that. It causes many unwanted problems and could lead to something dangerous. It should be stopped.
