Friendship is one of the most valuable things in life. Based on Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, the definition of a friend is, “A person whom one knows, likes and trusts. ” Because there are many different types of friends that people want or need, the meaning of a ‘real friend’ depends on their ideas. However, my personal opinions of characteristics that make a good friend are being honest, loyal, and polite. Honesty is an essential characteristic of a true friend because it is one of the criteria that we judge each other.
If a friend cannot be considered as being honest, he will not have good relationships with his friends. Moreover, if we can’t trust our friends to tell you the truth, they shouldn’t be our friends. When people tell lies, they would act nervous and not look at our face directly. However, an honest friend is not afraid to look us in the eyes and they mostly stay calm. Therefore, you can be sure that he would never betray you. Loyalty should also be found in a true friend. loyal friend keeps secrets and promises, and is someone who will always protect you.

Not being loyal to someone may cause them to get hurt and, you won’t have a real good friendship. A loyal friend sometimes does not hesitate to risk their life for you.
