Yoon-Ji. Shin Mrs. Schwertner English 2-4 October 1, 2003 Fruit Fast – Lord of the Flies project Eating, drinking, or consuming nothing but fruit or water for one 24 hours period. It seems simple because, I like to eat fruits.
Yesterday, dad and I went to the grocery store, and picked up lots of fruits; Bananas, black berries, plums, grapes and cherry juice. Originally I planned to start my fruit fast on Thursday, but after buying the fruits, my thoughts changed. I wanted to finish the project as soon as possible, and I wanted to eat the fruit while it was still fresh. So, I started at 5: 30 pm. Before I started, I tried to eat a lot of things to make me feel full. At 5: 30, I drank a glass of cherry juice and one banana.
Dad and Melodie had some pizza, but I wasn’t jealous. Because the fruits tasted good. At night, I ate some black berries, grapes, and strawberries. The black berries were so sour it hurt.
The grapes and strawberry was good but, I ate too much fruits. I can’t feel any tastes. In the morning, I ate plums, a banana and grapes. I ate a lot, but I couldn’t feel full. At lunch time, I ate salad (tomatoes, oranges, lettuces, carrots) without dressing. Meagan said “Salad without dressing? It sucks!” and I agreed with her.
It tastes bad. Everybody near me was having lots of delicious foods and they smelled good. I was so sad. When I went home, I watched the clock. I ate some grapes but even while I was eating the grapes, I didn’t feel that I was eating.

If fast food is unhealthy and is believed to cause obesity, why is there still a fast food restaurant every few blocks? All of my neurons were paying attention to the clock. 5: 30 pm! I yelled. “I’m done!” I was so happy. Tonight, I got a lot of pizza.
Now, I feel full. After this project, I can understand why Piggy was always saying ‘We want meat’ and ‘If I could only get a pig!’ . During this 24 hours, I also wanted to yell like Piggy. I am surprised about how the boys are able to work (hunting, making fire… etc) hard even though they are only eating fruits.
If I was on the island, the food problem would be tough enough to make me really want to go home. When they missed the airplane, now I can understand why Ralph felt so bad. This project was hard, but it makes me understand more about the boys at ‘Lord of the flies’.
