Gangs are killing our upcoming generations. Gangs have always been around for many years and they are still growing. They are becoming more violent now because they are using more than just their body parts to beat up people. These gangs are killing and raping people. It used to be about colors and different language but now it is about something different. It used to be about just being in the wrong neighborhood and getting jumped in. For some time now, one has to kill someone or rape someone to get in and stay in a gang.
Along time ago, each street had a known gang but all a person had to worry about was making sure he or she had on the right color on the right street so he or she did not get beat up. Most of the gangs of the past did not bother women too much unless it was a gang for girls and a task had to be performed to be a part of that gang. Gangs have evolved from beating up people to killing innocent people for no reason. Young children are being killed because it is what was asked of the gang member. ‘Kill or be killed’ is the saying for a known gang member.
A gang member cannot get out of a gang useless he or she dies. If a person is in a gang and that person goes to jail, he or she would still be in the gang. Gangs used to be about just wearing the wrong colors or being on the wrong street. Now gang life is about drugs, weapons, payback, and recruiting new members. Children are being killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Mothers are losing their children because of gang violence. Crime is constantly rising because of the street gangs.

A gang member has to be armed at all times because they are aware that someone may try to kill them. Weapons are used to make deals with and be sold for other things as well. A gang member is known for having the most drugs and weapons and is ranked for having the most of these things. Payback and recruiting new members are almost the same in gangs because if old members are recruiting new members, the new members are either getting beat up or they will have to hurt someone to get in.
If a rival gang does something to another gang that gang plans to payback for what has happen, the payback is usually worse than what was done in the first place. This payback could be for someone that is in jail or someone that is not. Gangs are taking over our youth, keeping them from going to school and making something of them self. They are taking lives that are not even on the earth long enough to know what is going on. Gangs are destroying our streets and bringing our property value down and messing up our streets with gang names.
They are selling drugs to our young children that are taking it to school and getting high and sometimes lose their lives over it by overdosing on the drugs. Along with gang membership come easy gains for the gang member. The gang members are easily consumed with the money, power, protection, and thrill that being a part of a gang can offer. Instead of committing to a 9 to 5, considering if the unemployment rate would permit it, gang members can easily get the desirables all rolled into the package that accompanies gang initiation.

They get the sense of identity, status, and boost in self-esteem that human nature craves. In conclusion gangs are a violent reality that people have to deal with in today’s cities.
