A controversial issue facing many governments and countries around the world is the concept of gay marriage. Gay marriage is where people of the same sex are allowed to become lawfully married. There are many differing perspectives on the issue and it’s generally hard to find anyone agnostic-like about the issue. (Generally they support it or you’re against).
In the last decade there have been around an equal amount of laws passed and denied in different countries.
The Christian faith is very damning of same sex marriage. The bible claims marriage is the union between a man and a woman, and so according to the Christian faith same sex marriage is extremely prohibited. There have been many instances where same-sex couples are not treated the same as other couples, particularly where their requests for marriage are ‘knocked back’ and not allowed or even supported by the church.
The Islamic attitude to homosexuality in general is seen as a sin in Islam and many Muslims focus on condemning homosexuals as they are appalled by homosexual behavior in general. During a Q&A session on homosexuality in Islam. A representative Muslim speaker referred to homosexuals as “ignorant people, [who] don’t even understand what [their] bodies are for.” This of course, influences their view on same sex marriage (which is seen as very similar to Christianity) as the religion sees marriage as a social sanctioned union between a man and a woman with the purpose of forming a family and anything different is unacceptable.

There is a great social significance to same-sex marriage. This is mostly because a large majority of people have extremely strong views on the subject. Some are extremely against same-sex marriage, either because their religion believes it is wrong or simply because they are not used to the concept and it is an uncomfortable thought to process. Others however, completely support the cause and many of these participate in the ‘gay pride’ ‘walks’ and support functions.
As a personal opinion I support Gay marriage and I believe that if two people of the same gender are attracted to each other, love each other as much as any ‘Heterosexual’ relationship, they should be allowed to be married, despite churches and religion’s perspectives. The only possible problem that could come out of the allowance of same-sex marriage that I can understand is public displays of affection, which could make other people uncomfortable. Same-sex marriage should be allowed in all countries and everywhere around the world.
After evaluating all information and research, I have found that religious views are similar and the concept has society completely divided. However, It’s my personal belief that same-sex marriage should be allowed.
