I have to admit when I first got word of this assignment I was very eager to run out and interview Dan Duquette. I mean what could possibly be better than running the Redsox. However, as the semester went on and speakers came into talk, my views changed. I decided that I wanted to interview someone in a position that I would like to be in one day. I contacted the general manager of the Lowell Spinner’s and the Pawtucket Redsox’s, believing that a job like that would not completely be out of reach someday.
Once again I changed my mind after listening to speech. I decided then that although it would be great to work for a ball team, (and I still might someday), I was not willing to make such sacrifices that are necessary for the position. So I went down to the mall and I talked to employees at Footlocker, Olympia, MVP and GNC to find out any information I could about their careers. I received a call from a regional manager of the General Nutrition Center, (GNC) and they asked me to come down.
The Interviewee’s name for my Project is. She is the general manager of GNC, or General Nutrition Center. Her office is on Hanover Street in.I met with Jessica Masters and I had several questions prepared for her. I wasn’t very familiar with GNC but knew it was geared towards the athlete. I asked her about the store and she told me that they basically made vitamins and supplements that helped the athlete, trainer, or anyone, become healthier. She used Mark MacGuire as an example of a sports figure who uses what her store has to offer.
The Research paper on The General Manager Case Study
I. TIME CONTEXT Acme Kemico, a small chemical outfit, was established in the early part of 1986. It was started as a single proprietorship selling paints and house sprays. The office set-up was composed of nine persons namely: a General Manager who was also the owner of the company; an Office Manager who served as the recruiting officer, accountant and overall supervisor; a lawyer who acted as the ...
Jessica described her typical day as hectic. She has a lot of paperwork and management responsibilities such as hiring and firing of employees. She said she liked most,
interacting with customers and helping people find what they specifically need. Each person is unique with different requirements so it can be satisfying to research what nutrition helps the most. Working overtime is the one thing Jessica dislikes most she says that she often has to work 50 plus hours a week. I then asked her what skills were important for this kind of job. She told me that by far the most important thing was the ability to sell, she said that she is always selling something, even if it is to her boss or employees, I asked how she got into the field and she told me that her husband was a trainer and he used many of GNC products and knew someone in the company.
To conclude the interview I asked if she would have any advice as to how I would get a job with GNC after I finished school. Jessica told me that the best thing to do would be to work in one of the local retail stores until I graduated, so she gave me an application and said that she would have someone get in touch with me. She had not heard of the sports management program at New Hampshire College but thought an internship should be a part of the sport management major. “Anytime you give students a chance for hands on experience in any field, it can only be a positive experience for both student and employer”.
On November 15th I was called in for an interview and a few days later got a job working as a sales associate at GNC. I just worked for the first time on November 24th and I am currently in training. I still have lots of time to decide what I will be doing after college but I am thankful that this assignment has given me a potential option.
